My rims should be here today, so want to get the tires on soon. Anyone know where ican get some tpms monitors? Will the place I get my tires from have them? Do i need to order them? Can I go without?
I can't find any. Apparently the ones I bought from American Muscle will not work (I assumed the '14 ones would work) - going to have to return those.

I called a couple of local dealers and they both said they can't even get them from ford yet.

Guess my winter wheels will be going on without tpms, which sucks. I think all that will happen is a light on the dash.

I might be in the same boat. I am considering having them take them out of the summers and then buy new sensors when ford gets them and adding to the summers.

Good call. Maybe that is the way to do it.

Yeah but then you have to pay for them to take them out of summers, and then pay to put new ones back in and mount and rebalance.....

Tire rack said they were "estimated" mid December to get some. And they have a warehouse up by you.

May be better to just drive super carefully until they get them in and hope the snow holds off.

That's what i'm doing.

I'm putting the winters on the PP wheels I have, then getting new wheels in the Spring once a few more options come out and I figure out if I can live with the stock size or if I want a bit larger for summer. Not to mention, the stock wheels are heavy, so better to use them for winter and get lighter for summers.

By then the TPMS should be in stock.

If you have the option to not drive if weather gets questionable. Personally, I am not risking it. Without winters, there is a good chance I wouldn't even be able to get home from the dealer after picking up the car.

Ya, that is an option too. Though I want a square setup for winter and 245s all around. Not sure you can get a 245 on the 9.5 inch PP rear.

Since we have this thread going I guess I'll post up my potential setup for winter. I have the Ecoboost w/PP:

225/45/18 tires with 18x7.5 35-45 offset wheels

From everything I've seen this should work perfectly fine in terms of caliper clearance and ice/snow performance. But, I haven't seen any one else post that they were going this narrow. So with that said, anybody see any reason this would be a bad setup?

It'll sacrifice some performance over a fatter setup when it's dry, but that's not the point of winter tires in my mind.

Going square does cause a bit of an issue. Not exactly sure on what the minimum size would have to be to work on a 9.5". Although from browsing around the internet, it seems a 245 could work although it probably depends on a given tire's sidewall stiffness.

I found a site saying that for a 235/40R18, the rim widths would be 8.0 to 9.5". So, you're talking an extra 10mm width but a loss of 1/2" sidewall. Although, perhaps 255s would work better if you wanted square.

As long as you're sure everything will fit, I don't see an issue with 225s. Though I wouldn't want to go any narrower. I had a 225x17 winter tire set up on my 135i and it was fine.

Yes. I found some people saying 245 on 9.5 no problem. And others saying no way. I can't imagine there wouldn't be more than a little stretching. 255 would probably be a happy compromise.

Really struggling with the tire decision. I am close to getting Nokian Happa r2s. From everything I have read they are great in snow and ice. I live in CT and while we can get a lot of snow, sometimes we dont get much at all. Much of my driving will be on dry pavement. I can work from home on bad days, so its really for situations where I might have to drive through an inch or 2 if I happen to be caught off guard or need to get a kid to a practice or back from school. The nokians are around $295 each and I dont know about their dry road performance. I was thinking of some Blizzak lm-32s which I can get cheaper, or even dunlop 3Ds. My big fear is every says I wont get anywhere driving a mustang in the winter, and I do live on a big hill.
Thinking for my situation maybe more of a winter tire with better dry driving is better. This is an expensive decision.

If you are getting hung up on the cost, you need to look at it from the pov that with winter tires, your summers will last that much longer before you need to spend money replacing them.

I've read that both the hakka r2 and lm-32s are good on dry pavement as well.

Agreed, Winter tires aren't just for snow and ice. They're for the Winter. They work great in all conditions with lower temperatures. When temps get below 45F or so, Winter tires seem to be the best option. Even if it's dry.

I am not questioning getting snow tires. I guess I am wondering if I really need the nokians when i can same some good money and get the blizzaks.

I had the same decision. I went blizzaks. I figured they would be a bit better in the dry without sacrificing much snow/ice performance.

Not sure where you're shopping, but you can get Nokians for about $50 / tire more than Blizzacks.
