Always match the same type of tire all around.

why would it matter which tires you're using?
Just that the extra-sipy winter tires might vibrate the car in a different manner than the smoother OEM tires and improperly seat suspension components.

Another question on winter tires. Do you need to get winter tires for the front? Or would an all season do, since the front wheels are not driving the car? Never had RWD before so not sure. thanks.

You need them all around. No fun when you turn the steering wheel on an icy road and keep going straight.

Also braking would be affected too - front tires do the bulk of the braking.

From what I've read, with winter tires you want a taller sidewall, not a smaller one. Definitely get the wheels with tires. Besides, it's much simpler to swap them and you can do it yourself and save some money.

I prefer the latter wheel as they seem easier to clean, and that's important. The damn PP wheels take a LONG time to clean. However, both of those options look better than the PP wheel.

I finally ordered the rims, man I spent like 3 days laboring over that one, hope I made a good choice. Now on to winter tires.

I have my sights set on the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2s. Need them in 255/40 R19 trying to find a good deal somewhere. Seems I missed out recently on a set for a real good price on ebay :(

Might want to consider 245/45/19. assuming you went with an 8.5 inch wide tire. Generally the fatter side wall and skinnier tire are better on ice and snow.

The hakka r2s are supposed to be great, but are in short supply in my neck of the woods. I ended up going with Michelin xi3.

So a 245/45R19 would work in place of 255/40R19? No stretching or anything?

I agree that would be preferred in snow. 8.5" wide rim?

I don't know about you but I think it sucks to buy a new car and have to drop a grand on new tires.. Not much choice unless I want to park it for the winter

The timing sucks, for sure. But I always look at it as I'm saving the wear on the summer tires, so it will be about twice as long before I have to replace them.
