Hey guys! Odds are I will not drive my 500 much this winter. I will be looking in to getting a good cover for the dust etc. do most hook up a battery charger or trickle charger so you don’t waste a good battery? Just wondering what the best way to temporarily “store” a car is.

thanks!

I am in SC so doesn't get super cold or long winters normally. When I had my GT350 if it was above 55ish I would take for a quick drive. maybe 3 times during "winter". never used a trickle charger.

The rest of my CTEK gear comes today so I'll be getting after that Real Soon Now. Meanwhile, having grown up in The North Country, it seems to me like the trickle charger route makes more sense than going out to a frigid garage to start the car once in awhile.

A battery maintainer is better for your battery than not using one. It doesn't overcharge but keep the battery topped off so that you never have to worry about driving the car.

Your battery will last longer too.

More Physics, don'tcha love it, Tom?

Of course you are absolutely correct (which is one of the two reasons I sent some money to CTEK, the other being the low frequency of driving the car.) Heck, I'm the nutjob who keeps all his household batteries in the freezer. <smile>

ALMOST off topic, but I think it's worth sharing...

I picked up one of these a number of years ago and it has paid for itself five times over at least. If you're like I used to be, when something with more than one battery stopped working, you threw all the old batts away and replaced with new. What I've learned since having this thing is often, one cell is completely gone while one or more of the others remains green and usable. I use it all the dang time.

I own no less than 1/2 dozen battery tenders (almost all battery tender brand) and they SAVE batteries period. Without them it was a crap shoot come spring if all my ATVs, Motorcycles, and car batteries would make it through the winter. That and sta-bil gas treatment has worked pretty well for me. The longer they sit the more important this is.

Disconnecting Your 12 Volt Battery
• Check and recharge as necessary. Keep connections clean.
If storing your vehicle for more than 30 days without recharging the battery, we recommend that you disconnect the battery cables to maintain battery charge for quick starting.

Note:
It is necessary to reset memory features if you disconnect the battery cables.
