I'm considering getting my windshield tinted and I'd appreciate comments for and against. I will comply with state tint limits. Thanks in advance.

If you want your car to look ghetto, and attract the wrong kind of attention, go for it!

Second getting ceramic tint. I have Xpel prime xr 80. Cant even tell its there and it blocks a lot of heat. Two things to note. It messes with the light sensor. And if your state requires a registration, inspection, or some other type of sticker, you cant place it directly on the tint for obvious reasons.

FWIW, I'm getting it done this week. Tinting the front windshield is becoming more and more common.

If you drive towards the Sun sometimes, you already know it's a feeling like being under a heat lamp with no escape. Modern tints can block virtually all the UV rays while not impeding radio and cell type signals.

As always, read up on any state laws. Some people deviate from the law not a bit, some a tick and still others dramatically.

1000% recommended. I have 80% ceramic on my entire windshield. Not only does it drastically cut down on heat entering the car and protect your dash, it even has a bonus of reducing nighttime glare from oncoming light sources.

It's also for all intents and purposes unnoticeable to law enforcement, especially if you have your side windows tinted to a much darker shade. I still don't understand why this is even illegal, but I had it done the first week after I bought the car.

Our front tint is 30 percent. Basically it’s one shade darker than clear.

Car looks great! Just so you know 30% is nowhere close to clear. The percent refers to the amount of light it allows through. Any percentage between 31 and 99 will be lighter than yours.

While on the topic of tint...when I was studying different percentages on-line, there's a visual effect in play. For example, an all black interior will show differently than a car with a white interior, all else being equal. The white will be reflecting any received light back outside while the black will absorb it. Two cars side-by-side can appear to have different levels of tint. I'd never considered or noticed this effect before.

I have the “percentages “ wrong. It would be a 70% on the front windshield. Which blocks 30% of the light. The back window and sides are 20% and the doors are 35%.

If you get the Ceramic tint, get the Johnson & Johnson - it's the best.

Same goes with the type of tint. Even with the same percentage some tints will look darker, or lighter, than others.

pros and cons.

Pros: Helps with sun, heat and makes the car look better.

Cons: Its expensive, sucks when you need a new windshield then have to re-tint, tint will never be perfect and you can sometimes tell when looking through it.

I stay away from it because half the cars I own end up needing a new windshield at some point in time. To much of a hassle for me to get new tint. Plus I live in Michigan sun and heat are only a problem for 3 months.

Yes it can be expensive. The place I went to had three varieties based on price from low to high.

They had to redo the tint because the first one ended up having a few bubbles that did not come out. The second one is perfect. It took them about 2.5hrs.
