Would you, if you were President , walked in there and put yourself in that position? I wouldn't. If I have committed a crime, they should be able to prove it without my having to disprove it.
No, I wouldn't expect them to. But it looks bad that they completely stonewalled. And that's why Trump got charged with the 2nd article of impeachment. Lawyers can argue all day long if it's a valid impeachment charge. From what I've read, it looks valid.

Do people charged with crimes (ie, impeached) tell the court that they will refuse to have anyone defend the charges against them in court (ie, Senate trial)? If they do, I think it's crazy to do so, and sets a bad prescience that they won't even try to defend themselves. If the Senate tries to short circuit a fair trial, they're going to look bad, and McConnell could technically get impeached for doing so.

Senate trial rules have not been set yet as there are no impeachment articles passed to the senate yet. Why? McConnel said he wasn't going to let it be turned into another circus. The trial is supposed to be over the articles of impeachment, Abuse of power and obstruction of congress. Are they offenses that deserve expulsion of a president, is he actually guilty of those charges? So far the House has not presented any evidence that they are, that is their job. It is not Trump's job to provide witnesses that he isn't. Present the evidence, if witnesses need to be called then they can be. They can't call witnesses hoping that someone will prove their point. That is what all the impeachment inquiry was about.

McConnell has already made public statements that make it look like it will turn it into a circus and no witnesses will be allowed to testify - that is why the articles of impeachment haven't been given to the Senate just yet. Would you go into a trial trying to prosecute someone knowing that, or what the rules are going to be? And McConnell is going to get in trouble by taking the trial oath and then breaking it if he does what he plans. More gov't checks in action.

McConnell's plan is to not allow any new evidence to be presented on either side.

Let's just use the House's impeachment rules...….

Well, I didn't see anyone say they were going to impeach anyone who participated in the House hearings. McConnell is treading on thin ice IMO.

Can't all the scoundrels were dems, they control the house. McConnel would just be acquitted in the senate anyway. This whole separation of powers thing keeps our government from chewing itself to pieces.

Probably ... more typical corrupt operations, just like the Senate trial will most likely be.
You would just impeach everyone.

I don't think impeachment was meant for trivial BS. It was meant for things like treason. It would be a whole lot better to let the elections work the way they are supposed too.

Like i said before, I don't want to sleep with him. I just want someone running this country that will do a good job and if I got to read about twitter fueds, I don't care. That 16 yo girl is a rich self important snot and proven liar. This is not about personalities, this is about right and wrong, rule of law and destroying our country
Came back to this. So you don't think Trump is a "rich self important snot and proven liar" ... wow, OK. Pot meet Kettle.

And you're OK with someone doing a good job running the country even if he's been charged with being corrupt and breaking his oath of office? Yeah, I get that ... but I also get that the Constitution was written for this country to operate by for a reason.

2. Obstruction of Congress, how did he obstruct Congress, did he obstruct all of Congress or just the parts that have been trying to impeach him for 3 years and if it is said that by not having previously mentioned people who for sure are going to implicate him testify is he in obstruction or within his rights?
BTW ... on the Obstruction of Congress impeachment charge. If you do more research (and it's been talked about in this thread already), you will see that the House has complete authority to request information from the executive branch for their investigation of wrong doing, that includes sending out subpoenas.

Since Trump did a 100% stonewall, then he has obstructed Congress (the House) from doing their job. These rules are part of the separation of power. The executive branch can not put up walls and operate independently of the other two branches. Watch your gov't lesson cartoons again, lol.

Nixon did similar stonewalling, but not 100% like Trump. Nixon he was in line to also be charged with Obstruction of Congress.
