Ford did it to give more exclusivity to the MT82..otherwise the 50th LE's with auto's wouldn't have had the PP.

Wonder if that ten speed automatic has optional fifth wheel and air brakes.
I want a 3 speed automatic like the Torqueflite 727 damn it! lol

Since the car will be fastest right at peak horsepower for any given gear/speed, the idea is to narrow the rpm drop between shits so as to keep the motor right near peak hp, always. (think CVT)

In a modern, high tech, ultra-fast shifting, zero-decoupling-of-power-between-shifts automatic, this will be the fastest setup. That is, more gears will be faster so long as the rest of that is true.

On the contrary, put that many gears in an MT car and it will be slower for obvious reasons. Not only that, it'd be flat out annoying and very inconvenient. The 3.73 geared GTPP is borderline already.... imagine throwing 4 more gears into the same range.... hell no.

I agree with you about that performance package tranny. Four speeds on that would suit me just fine.

You're talking dual clutch transmissions now.
More gears bring more weight which slows cars, too. It's not linear.

10 speed may be great for road course, but what about drag/roll racing? Will it be beneficial in any way? Not sure if that many shifts will help in a drag race even though is supposed to have the car always on his peak hp every gear

Well there certainly are some mature members here and some , well, needing more years shall we say. I'm 70 so I can say this!

I was of buying age during the Muscle Car years and I ordered and ticked off the right boxes and bought many. Power Glides were slugs when the 4 spd came out. In those days it had to be a stick, period!! Then the 3spd auto came on board and evened up the playing field. It was just fun chirping rubber at the stoplights and thru the gears with a stick! Street racing was "in" big time!

Flash fwd..I ordered and bought. BMW 650i with the M pkg. 407 twin turbo and 8spd paddle shifter. With computers and powere and 8spd.. When you mat it, you are literally thrown back into your seat and thrust to speed like never before! It was actually scary!! My 1st ever automatic!! After 3&1/2 yrs I was bored to death! I had no fun, no control, no chirping of tires (unless I took out the 65 GTO!!). So I sold it, ordered my 15 Stang and am one happy camper.

This thread is like your election...everyone has an opinion ( to us Canadians it was great entertainment!) 8spd auto, 10spd auto..6spd stick oh hell ya, give me the stick.........just because that's what I want....that's what gives me enjoyment. Stop beating each other up and for God sakes, just enjoy this f'in hobby! Sorry for the length, just being an old fart I suppose!!

If its anything like the zl1 video i think we are in for the best auto ever produced by Ford and Chevy. I wonder if circle d is doing any research on how their converters will work with this set up.

Aren't 10 speeds for bicycles and 18 wheelers?

I'd hate to see the damn trans lag when trying to drive the speed limit in a 45mph zone...

For me an 8 would have been enough but 10... what the heck why not.

I just want it to shift fast and hard when asked to do so, also should help with acceleration and MPG.

Like the C7 corvette or any BMW these days, the 6 speed auto it outdated but strong.

Lets hope they get the strong part right and make it responsive.

I am a die hard manual driver, but I completely see the benefit of the new A10. Hell, I've been considering swapping my MT82 trans out for the currently available A6.

I really hope Ford makes these transmissions available for purchase for us beta testing Gen I S550 owners. I would buy that transmission day one.

I think people are so wrapped up in whether they want "10 speeds" (which they do, whether they realize it or not) that they completely forget about the other aspect of this transmission... It is going to shift faster than the current A6.

I would take the manual anyday. I dont care about glory numbers and dont forum race. Automatics, to me, are just boring. But thats just me, i dont think one is better. You just have to decide whats best for your own needs/wants:cheers:
