Why is a 10 speed auto so appealing?

People also seem to have the misconception that the A10 will always shift all the way up to 10th... On the contrary, based on your driving style and city vs highway, some may never see 10th. The benefit would be the quicker and more responsive transmission with better highway fuel economy.

they said this new 10AT can skip gears too so it wont be a gear hunting fest like some 8AT are now

Optimized gear ratios. With 10 gears to accomplish the same thing they can make them much closer ratios so you don't get such a drop off from one gear to the next. This affects fuel economy(the biggest driver), and performance. Optimized gear ratios stay in the optimized rpm range for max power.

OK...people, surely to God most if not everyone here has been on a subway, skytrains, mass transit of some sort with a multiple automatic transmission device.. As was said, it gets you in the HP and torque range and does not let go! You are thrust back into your seat like a roller coaster and does not let go! You have the pedal to let go!

BUT IT IS STILL NOT AS MUCH FUN AS A STICK!!!! I rest my case!

If i need an auto for something itll have a th400 or glide. You know, the trans actual fast cars typically have put in. Not this 10-12 second slow stuff that people think you need an auto for. Hell, you can row a car into lower 8s. This idea of requiring an auto to do so is rather funny. Auto is not a requirement its just a way out for average racers typically. There is nothing wrong with being average, dont misunderstand. With that said autos definitely have their place. However people are so quick to opt out of working on their skills they'd rather reach for instant gratification. Shame really.

I think this is a really shallow view of automatic owners. Sometimes people just want to be fast, and the auto is quicker than even the best manual driver. No reason to hate on auto guys...

Its typically accurate what i said. I dont hate auto. Im putting one in my own build eventually. Glide or th400. However i have multiple needs for one. Cant run 7.90s on manual and no trans will hold the power.

You know... top fuel & funny cars have 1 speed.

With a slipper clutch that doesn't lock until half-track. So not effectively a 1 speed at all..... more of a CVT.
