So this thread is called "why DIDN'T you get a camaro?

I guess a reasonable question to ask: was it ever even in the running? How many people considered alternate vehicles before settling on the Mustang? I'll admit I briefly considered a Challenger with a Hemi and a stick, mostly because they are roomier and more comfortable and still look and sound cool, but in the end the bloated Challenger doesn't quite do it for me and I have always wanted a Mustang.

Sounds like a lot of work. The most I can muster is 2-3 hours a week. I put my heavy bag and speed bag in the basement years ago, probably should have left the speed bag out.

It is, but I like to eat lots of bad for me food too. I use the "mirror depression" and pain from an aging fat body forced to work by sheer will as fuel to beat the crap out of the bag. It's therapeutic and I might be slightly insane. Arthritis forming in my low back and right hand, bone spur in my right ankle, and I make sure to give those joints something to cry about. Shoulders look decent and I feel strong but I got a fat belly haha. Pretty sure when I can't throw punches and kicks anymore, I'll just bite the bag to submission...or pee on it.

Daytona Charger was a very close second for me. Mustang was just a little better in many areas including a cheaper price.

I never looked at Camaro or Challenger. I already knew what I wanted.

You're like me in a way. Always had Mustangs in my mind but would look at other cars to buy. Did a deal on a Lexus and signed everything, was going to pick up the car the next day but just didn't sit with me. I knew I wouldn't be happy. I had a 3 day cancellation option and I called the dealer to cancel it.

Next day went to another dealer and got my current car. Used and all not knowing it's history. Didn't even look under the hood because I don't know what to look for, just test drove it. Hopefully I won't have any major problems. (Just replaced the fuel pump and tires so far)

But then again even newer cars take a shit. My old gt started having problems around 20k and I had gotten it at 1,300 miles. So.... ya never know.

Outside of the constantly pinched wiring between the door jambs, removing the windshield to access the evaporator core, and shitty GM quality and pricing. No reason. I used to be GM through and through.

I bought my '04 Mustang because at the time it was the cheapest way for me to get into a rear-drive performance coup. I kept it for 10 years, and started looking at other vehicles, and was kind of tired of the retro thing, so a Mustang wasn't necessarily at the top of my list.

After doing some checking, though, the '14 Mustang seemed to have the best performance and features for the money, and the recent updates looked better to me, so I decided to go for it when I found a decent deal on one. Brembo pack, Recaro seats, basically everything except for an uprated stereo and backup cam (6M).

Knowing that Mustangs were going to get restyled, and get an IRS, I kept that one pristine in case I wanted to trade it in or sell it. When the '18 came out it was basically everything I wanted, so I got that. I still checked out some other cars, but nothing really felt any better.

I sat in the Camaro a few times, although I never drove it, but I just hated being it in. It felt tight, dark, uncomfortable, and I just wasn't wild about the interior or exterior looks. Maybe I would have felt differently if I'd driven it, but I would just have a hard time owning a car that made me say "ugh" every time I got in it.

I'm just the opposite. I've had 3 Mustangs and just want something different. Since I'm getting older my knees and hip bother me at times and the Challenger should be easier to get in and out of. Plus it is roomier, has a big trunk and I would welcome more torque. I had been planning on ordering one the past couple months, but keep changing my mind on the trim and color. I keep going back and forth between the 1320 and WB. I found a guy that will do 1% under supplier and offered to give me about 26k for my 16GT premium with 52k miles without even seeing it in person. I think that is pretty good since I only owe about 8k on it. But he has been bugging me to order soon as he can't keep that price for long as it sounds like the values are already starting to inch back down.

IDK, the Brampton plant is closed for almost 3 more weeks and it was supposed to take 8-10 weeks before even considering that. I keep hoping one will pop up with the exact options I want, but nothing has came up yet. There have been a few without one option or another like no carbon interior group and one that has a sunroof that I really didn't want. I'm also thinking of waiting on the new Nissan Z, but I like the Challenger's looks more and its American (mostly). I also thought of just waiting and paying the rest of my note off and maybe buy a hellcat around this time next year, although I know they are more costly to operate and maintain. Or I could just wait until Dodges muscle-e car comes out in 24 as it sounds like it may be pretty cool if I can get past the missing V8 sound.

I would have bought a Camaro, esp. an LT1 Convertible... For the right price, but I'm glad to have found my GT and at this point, would not trade it for any Camaro. The Mustang is better looking. Wish it had a nicer roof though, like the Camaro.

Multitude of things, the main dislike I have about the Camaro is the visibility. I've been influenced by JDM sports cars since I was a kid and the number 1 thing they have in common has been visibility is stupid good for a sports car. I know people say you can get used to it which is why I didn't put much weight into it until I worked at a dealership as a porter and had to shuffle a few around. Hated being inside, and I don't think the car wanted me inside it. For other counterpoints, usability was another key issue, I only afford/have room for one car right now. I need a sports car that can do everything.

The Camaro can do it all. There's definitely truth to the visibility issue. Adjusting mirrors correctly is a must, but even when they are adjusted perfectly the high belt line makes it hard to judge where the car is in relation to curbs and such. I've put just over 50K miles on my 1LE and never scrubbed a tire, or my splitter, but I have ended up cock eyed or short in parking spaces and had to get back in a re-park.

Someone, from Car and Driver I believe, wrote that the Camaro gets smaller the faster you go. I've found this to be true. In parking lots, better watch it, on the highway at speed, it's a dream.
