I have a few questions about the Whipple tuning and their flare software. On the configuration tab, there is something called Flight Control and in reading the documentation, it seems this will give me the ability to 'de-tune' the power by gear. Is that accurate? Have any of you played with Flight Control? Any advice or counsel?

I may need to 'de-tune' my car a bit. Atleast in 1st and 2nd gear. I get it back from the installer in about an hour. The installer builds trackday and SCCA mustangs, nearly exclusively. He says my car now makes too much power!! In his test drive today, he spun the tires and lost traction in EVERY gear.

Spec on the car:
2017 GT 5.0 w/ PP (2100 miles on the car)
Eibach Proline Spring Kit
25/23mm wheel spacers on stock PP wheels and tires
Whipple Stage2 Gen3 with Whipple base tune and no additional Whipple add-ons.
Thermal R&D Cat-back exhaust

I ordered new wheels, 20x10 (front) and 20x11 (rear). The wheels have arrived. I think I am going to go with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports or Sport Cup 2. 305 rear and 285 front.

I plan to do spirited mountain road driving and occasional trackdays, road course not drag racing.

What other thoughts to gain traction?

With 3.73s and street tires you will have problems in 1/2/3 at the least. I've seen people take 25% off of 1st and 15% out of 2nd to help.

Take it all the way down in 1st-3rd and slowly add back starting with 3rd gear.

I would probably do the 25% in 1st and 15% in second until you get a little more used to driving it. Also, line lock those pirelli's until they roast off and buy some tires that give you some traction. My car was undriveable until I switched tires..

HA!

I just got back to the office from picking it up. It was not as bad as I thought, except 1st gear, ok, maybe 2nd too!! :headbang:

Tonight I will set 1st gear to 25% and 2nd to 15% and go from there.

And yes, these Pirelli's suck ass!! Since my wheels finally showed up to my wheel shop, I will get him to get the tires ASAP! Took 2 months for Vorsteiner to ship my wheels.

Let us know how FC works for you. My car came with Whipple but I don't know if it has FC or not. Probably not. I have the stock Pirellis and they suck. I'll probably contact Whipple to get FC added. I'm getting new tires very soon.

Your car came with the Whipple? The previous owner should have given you the OBD2 module, software, USB stick with the flare (tune) file and the voucher number.... All of that is now 'locked' to your car's VIN. FC is part of the Whipple software. Also called the flare software.

I would contact Whipple and tell them you bought the car used. I am curious how they handle that, I am certain they are not giving you that stuff for free.

Yes it came with Whipple and only 5500mi total. got it from high end perf car used dealer. They got it from Land Rover dealer where orig owner traded.

I contacted previous owner via LinkedIn (tracked him down). He gave terse but informative info on the mods and who did them. I doubt I’ll get anything else from him. He can’t even find the 2nd key fob. But I’ll ask him about the software stuff and if he has it. Otherwise I’ll try Whipple. It’s not a pressing issue but would be nice. Mustang is not a DD.

Its unfortunate hes acting like that. Id have no problem talking to someone that ended up with a vehicle I preciously owned.

I've had success taking out 25% in first and 15% in second with my 3.73 gears. I used to have to take 5% out of third with the stock Pzeros, but was able to go back to 0% when I switched my tires to the Gmax AS-05s.

FWIW I dyno'd the car with 25% reduced power and the car still made 480 whp and 390 ft lbs on the stock whipple tune with 93 octane.

You're definitely going to want to track down that USB drive as it contains your stock OEM tune. If you ever have an issue with the car and the computer gets flashed, you'll be stuck without it. Ask me how I know

I'd have no problem either. Quite the opposite. I messaged him again via Linkedin about the Whipple stuff and the key fob (again). Hopefully I hear something back.

I did some testing last night. Granted it was like 42 degrees out and I could only get the tires to heat from 31 psi to 33psi. I prefer a warm temp closer to 35. I started at 25% in 1st then 15 and 15... I settled on 20, 15 and 10...

With better temps and much better tires, I could see finding an everyday happy spot at around 15% in first and 10% in 2nd, possibly 5% or 0% in 3rd or and no power degration in the other gears.

I am hoping to do a dyno run by mid-Jan. unless I find a place close to me.

Buy better tires and use our right foot as traction control :)
