I went the MGW Standard Shifter/Standard Handle or race spec they call it with the Raceseng slammer weighted knob. It the highest throw they have. Is still noticeably shorter than the OEM one. I didn't want to feel like my hand was in the trans tunnel.

The OEM shifter feels like your shifting through rubber gates. It's mushy, crunchy and clunky. The new setup is smooth and crisp. It feels like a real gearbox. And puts a smile on my face every time I'm out rowing gears. MGW provides all you need. The others or at least the Steeda you have to reuse some of the junk plastic parts from the OEM shifter.

Any one of them will be an improvement. But, MGW all day. Also swap out your spring and perch for the Steeda one, takes a min even with bum back. You'll be surprised how much better the car feels after MGW, new fluid, SS line and steeda perch.

100% this. I wasn't concerned with the throw per se. It was the feel of the sloppy stock shifter I wanted to improve.

I have often wondered what problem these are meant to solve. Interested enough to keep reading threads on shifters but at the same time wonder if I installed one would the money and effort be worth it since I don’t track the car.

Don’t get to crazy shifting a factory MY82-D4 though. The shift forks are cast aluminum and can/have broken in several transmissions. Slower shifting will help prevent breakage.

It seems that finding billet aluminum shift forks is proving to be extremely difficult. I was fortunate enough to purchase mine 2 years or so ago.

Aside from that, stiffening up the driveline (trans bushing insert, braided clutch line, motor mounts and a shifter support bushing) helps, but the clutch is gonna be the ticket (and literally a big ticket item at that).

I like that! How do you engage reverse without the pull up collar?
easy peasy…from the neutral position, just before you slip into the reverse gate, push down lightly 👍🏼

I'm not tracking my car. Its a DD. If you've driven enough manual cars. Then you know the feel of these from factory is kinda terrible. I'm not sure how anyone can drive with the stock shifter and actually like it. I almost went looking for a A10 car before I changed the shifter. It was shit from the factory. I did it to improve the overall drivability. And it did just that

The factory shifter has a lot of compliance due to the way it’s mounted…

MGW standard shifter standard height… Definitely sits a little bit lower than the factory shifter…very nice to drive though!

MGW doesn't show it on their web site but they sent me a one inch longer handle and my old bones are so much happier now. George is one of the best people to deal with and his company will go out of their way to help. I used a collar from MDL and a plain round stainless steel ball from Billetworkz to fine tune the final length and the car is a pleasure to shift and so positive and precise compared to the OEM shifter.

Try the Energy Suspension 4.1145G bushing for the OEM shifter, it will do the job for most of us.
A cheap and easy to install mod that helps to improve shifter precision a lot.
The OEM rubber is loose like a granny hooker...
