You guys were really helpful on the other install price thread so I would like to ask your opinion on the same topic.
I am leaning towards the standard height MGW x spec shifter. Has your experience shown you that I might be happier with another model from these guys?
Thanks in advance

The big two names are MGW and Barton.

I ended up with a Barton Hybrid 3.

The MGW is a solid choice, and lots of people run it. Wouldnt be a bad buy.

Really, all three, Barton, MGW and Steeda are the major players in the shifter game. They all look like solid shifters, but I’ve only used Steeda and Barton in my Mustangs.

OP, if you don’t want yours to be super short, I’d recommend you stick with the standard height MGW.

Here’s my Tri-ax short throw race shifter. As you can see, it does sit really low.

Yeah, I am happy with the standard height, although yours intrigues me. Several different throw options to agonize over, as well, lol.

Yeah, you’ll want to figure that piece out for sure before ordering because you don’t want to keep disassembling the trim pieces (they’re fragile and break easily). When I installed mine it broke and had to order a new replacement.

Funny you should mention that ... :

If you can be bothered (or if you are fitting a shifter anyway), I've read that taking the console out and pushing the tabs from the back is easy, with zero risk of breakage :like:

When I did my transmission build, I removed the shifter from the tranny from underneath the car and didn’t have to risk breaking the trim piece again. I just let it hang there by the knob and boot. I want to say the replacement trim piece cost something like $60 - $75.

You’re probably right. Good thing you were able to repair yours and save that extra cash.

Let me look into those, I may pm you later, thanks.
Curious as to why you never installed it.

I didn't install it because I went T-56 Magnum XL instead of doing a Calimer Build.

I feel like the stock height of the shifter is already pretty low. When I was looking into it, I ended up calling the manufacturers. Maybe this will help you.

Barton flat stick - 7/8" shorter handle than stock
MGW standard - 1/2" shorter handle than stock
MGW low profile - 1" shorter handle than stock
Triax - 1" shorter handle than stock

I was of the mind that if I get a 650 or another 550 I would install it then: But ford is making it hard for me to want a 650 right now. and I really don't want another 550 to build out.
Unless I find a track suitable subject to build.
