Which RAMP set?

Hi Guys,

Im looking to buy a set of car ramps for the stang, anyone have any recomendations?? metal or plastic?? Brand? I don't want have any issue with clearance issues... I seen harbor freight has a few.. Whatcha guys think?

I have an older pair of rhino ramps that work pretty well. On a non lowered 19' pp1 the bumper barely rubs when going up/down. Even with a small rubber pad on the bottom they don't stay very well and will push on smooth surfaces.

Thanks for reply!!! Oh ok via Rhino!!! Plastic scares me a bit, cant lie. I use to have an old pair of steel ramps from R.S. Strauss back in the day. they held my 87 lincoln continental well, that car was a TANK!!

I have one set of Race Ramps, however, I wish I'd have done just a little more looking around at the ones they have available because I'd have liked to have gotten the car just a little further off the ground. I don't recall exactly what ones I have for my Mach 1 but they were amazingly well and just barely clear the front lower splitter. They do not move at all or have not at all when driving onto them. Definitely recommend them, they are just a bit more pricey than most other options.

I have a set of plastic Rhino ramps as well, and they're used under my son's Ram 3500 4x4 with an 1100 lb Cummins engine in it. They're rated for 8K lbs (gvw) each. I'm not ready to test that, but they handle the dually just fine. I have no reservations about putting my Mustang on them, or my wife's Highlander for that matter (HL weighs ~4400 lbs, not a lightweight).

They weren't specific to my car, just not a steep degree angle since the front splitter is so long and low to the ground. Very certain I got these ones as I do not see another set that seem to look anything like the ones I have but it's a very minimal raise and I'd recommend getting something to get you up a little higher if you're trying to do oil or any servicing under the car. I may get a 2nd set to make it easier to get the car jacked up this spring though.

I have an old set of plastic ramps, I think from Walmart, that have to be 20 years old. They have supported anything I've ever owned from Vw bugs to 2500 pickup trucks. Never an issue. I also have a newer pair of Rhino ramps that are just a touch higher that work well with my stock height Mustang. If you are worried about clearance you can always use a piece of 1" or 2" lumber in front of the ramp as a "step up" .
Another thought to consider is building your own. There are numerous videos on YouTube on making ramps and wheel cribs from lumber that allow you to customize ramp length and angle and final height. They will obviously be heavier but you can customize them to be modular and easily stackable/storeable.

There's a trick for that...

Go to your local Dollar Store or WalMart and go to the kitchen section - look for the kitchen rubber cabinet liner - this material comes on a roll.

Cut a length of that liner and place one section under the rear of the ramp and another section under the front of the ramp where ever the ramp makes contact with the smooth surface (floor). The next time you go to drive up, the ramp should not move...

I do this in my garage with the tiled floor - had same issue with Rhinos on the smooth surface wanting to "skip" as the weight if the vehicle got onto them. Once I did the trick mentioned, no more issues.
