What? Why on earth do you think it was a waste of time and money? I explained it was beyond dirty. So it was definitely NOT a waste of time and money.

So what was the gain from spending 32 HOURS of your time, and $15-25.00 on? Do you have any good results/data?

Yes. All that crap isn't stuck in the filter. The HVAC flows easier and quieter.

You'll never know until you do it yourself.

The manual is actually pretty useless as it just mentions to have things like the Differential fluids and Transmission fluids checked. It doesn't really say when to change them. I know my brake fluid needs a change as the shop says the copper content is over 200ppm. Wondering if I should have the Trans and Diff fluids changed at the same time. I've got 135K on it and never had any of these fluids changed...yet.

My two cents worth is that it depends upon what you do with your car. A daily car can go way longer without changing those fluids than a track car that sees high brake and engine temps. I’ve changed brake fluid on a car that still had the original 1978 fluid in it. It stopped when the brakes were applied but the fluid looked like old engine oil. Definitely stopped smoother and better after a good flush and fresh fluid. Plus it’s easier on the calipers.
Basically, it won’t hurt to change them often but it could if you go to long.

In that case have them all changed if you are keeping the car, unless you and the family won t be able to eat for the week by doing it, LOL.

The rule of thumb I adhere to is every two years on the Radiator and brake fluid. 30-50,000 miles on the trans and rear. Oil and filter every 5,000 miles.

My wife has the 4 cylinder turbo in her Escape . Oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Take care of your baby and she will take care of you.

What part of the process is so bad? Would have thought it easy from this video...
It’s not as bad as Kona makes it out to be…but it’s in such a weird position that it takes some maneuvering to get it out and back in. Took me about 10 mins total.

If your blower fan ever goes out, it’s behind the glovebox too. Had to replace 2 of them so far. That’s also quick but you have to contort yourself upside down to get to it.

Cory, not to get into a pissing contest, First off I only use full synthetic in all my vehicles. That being said, Ever smell the oil at 5000 miles not only is it black but reeks of gasoline. To me its not a waste of money to change my oil at 3000 on the Escape with the turbo 4 cylinder and at 5000 on the GT. Carbon and oil deposits collect on the back of the valves due to the direct injection. Ask any savvy Ford mechanic and they will tell you OIL is the cheapest thing you can add to your car. Many people run that black, dirty and gas diluted oil through their engine bearings and all they gain is extended wear. Check it out.

Was wondering what the consensus was on the following fluids and change intervals:

Brake Fluid
Transmission Fluid
Differential Fluid
Coolant

My local shop is saying these should all be flushed and replaced every 30K, which seems way too frequent. Thoughts?
Depending where you live (humidity, etc.) the brake fluid could be required every 2 years or much longer. Invest in a brake fluid moisture meter (cheap on Amazon) and use that as a gauge as to when to flush out the old fluid. I think my manual stated the coolant should be replaced at 3 years from manufacture and every 2 years after that. The auto trans fluid supposedly is near 100K mark but I suppose it all depends upon how your drive it. Just follow your maintenance schedule to maintain your warranty (or extended warranty if you have one).

Honestly. I don’t go by miles. I go by average load/RPM. I do my Corolla at 10-12K. It hardly ever goes over 2000rpm and is used for 97% highway cruising.
