Where does PPF fit in in the process?

Wash / Deionize / Clay / Polish / Seal / Wax

This is what I have done in the the past. I now live in Colorado and will be using my Mach 1 as a second car to track and drive in the mountains. I really think I need PPF has there is quite a bit of debris on the roads here.

Would I do the above steps minus the Wax/Ceramic than have the film applied?

Directly after the paint correction. Any sealant/wax will inhibit the PPF's ability to adhere long term. Most installers will prepare your car with a stripping agent anyways so it would likely be wasted money

Good info. I’m trying to find a high end shop which are a dime a dozen in Texas but not more difficult here.

Ideally, a wash, de-iron, clay and polish and prep wipe prior to the application of PPF.

Once installed, you can also add ceramic coating to PPF. Look at products like GTECKNIQ Halo or CarPro Skin.

I get the benefits of PPF, but for someone that enjoys the cleaning, polishing and waxing process, I cant get over the fact that I would be applying this effort to the PPF and not the cars paintwork, just doesn't feel right. This is one of the reasons I likely wont install PPF.

I have similar thoughts. My cars are not Ceramic coated for that reason, I love the selection and application of a new wax or sealant on a regular basis.

I get it, all relative to where you live. I wouldn’t get caught dead without it here in Colorado. Debris is everywhere.

It's a bit of a drive for you, but I use Primo Auto Styling in Arvada for my PPF. Matt and Larry are really good guys. Larry really cares when it comes to making sure the job is top notch.

I know all too well what Colorado roads will do to a car. I've already had a rock rip my PPF and crack a headlight.

PPF SHOULD be coated.

Most films are somewhat porous, which makes coating them very beneficial. Otherwise they get hard to clean as they are more prone to absorbing things like bug guts.

Skip the "film specific" coatings. They're watered down(so to speak) for easier installation.

Bought a new GT Premium last week. Scheduled to have Llumar PPF installed next week in Leesburg, FL. Have had it on my last three cars and am a believer! Bought a new Nissan Pathfinder in Huntsville, AL in 2013. Was coming out of a 2008 Lexus ES-350. Road rash was so bad the front end looked sand-blasted, this after having the hood and bumper repainted once. Had the full front end of the Pathfinder covered with Llumar PPF. Front end looked brand-new in July 2020 when I traded it for a 2021 Hyundai Palisade. Hyundai dealer is a Llumar installer as well so I had the front end treatment done again. This time they went further than in 2013, did all door cups and edges, mirrors, windshield pillars and between the windshield and sunroof. Wish they were doing that in 2013 because the Pathfinder took several dings in the roof above the windshield. I also had a 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster, bought used. It had some kind of "clear-bra" treatment when I bought it but the material had yellowed. When I had the Pathfinder done in 2013 I had the Nissan redone - removed whatever was on there and replaced with Llumar. Just sold the 370Z to make room for the Mustang - front end is still almost perfect after 11 years. A few mars in the Llumar as it wasn't "self-healing" in 2013 but the slight scuffs in the Llumar would have been chips in the paint without it. A Llumar installer can do any car. In 2013 they cut the Llumar sheets to size with a razor. Left a slight gap along the edge of all panels. Now they computer-cut each panel on a computerized machine and the panels fit perfectly. My Hyundai Palisade has nary a ding after 14 months - can't wait to get the Mustang done next week so I can quit worrying about getting a chip before I get the Llumar installed!
