Considering getting my 350R PPF'ed. Have a quote from one reputable installer. Entire car ceramic coated plus majority of the car PPF'ed - quote was $6,900. The PPF material will be XPEL. Price seems a bit steep to me. Now, I am considering only getting the front, fenders, mirrors, and A pillars PPF'ed, since that is where majority of rock debris would be encountered.

I drive my 350R very little. It is garaged 5 months of the year (OH winters). Never sees rain. The car is mainly tracked 4-8 times a year.

Thanks for the input.

I can say that I have seen more scars on PPF due to track use than the same amount of street driving. Sticky tires and small pebbles, tire pieces leaving black streaks and all that. Everything comes off with 99% iso-alcohol (which Xpel recommends for that and bug droppings). On the road itself PPF has saved me from serious damage about 3x, not to mention hide numerous stones chips from a insanely fragile paint quality.

I'm gonna get it for saying this, but clay bar the car yourself and skip the paint correction and ceramic PPF coating. Just put the PPF on (I used Xpel as well) and enjoy. The cost of paint correction and ceramic coating just didn't make sense for the small gain in "pop". Though later on you can ceramic coat it if you will, but it is my understanding it will reduce the effectiveness of the top layer of PPF which is the self-healing part. The car is darn shiny and reflective as is.

Your price sounds very high, but they may not be using "pre cut" Xpel templates, which, yes are good and reduce the cost and I've been happy with it, but cutting each individual piece will ensure certain areas have full wrap around protection around the wheel fenders. Using bulk cuts really increases the labour time, as the cutting plotters can be expensive. I have about 2-3 mm of paint showing on the rolled part of the fender with the Xpel pre-cut kits. It used to bother me, but not any more.

You're making the right call with the PPF

If you are a DIY type then like me you can do it yourself. The hard bits are the front bumper and the entire hip area which includes over the windows. These have compound curves and require heating, stretching and shrinking. I hate joins. You may like to have the professionals do the bumper and try some other sections yourself. I only did the front 2 feet of the hood. My car looks great from 6 feet away. I actually have to point out my errors in wrapping to admirers. It took me one day per panel. My car is scratch and chip free and has had the DIY clear wrap for 4 years. Each to his own though. I am retired and have the time to spend on my hobby car. I removed the side mirrors and door handles to ppf the doors. I also suggest you do the lights. The fenders are the easiest. Cost me $200 all up for bumper, fenders, doors. hips and lower rear quarter panel behind the doors, 2 feet of the hood and about 10 inches of the leading edge of the roof, 4 years ago. I will do better next time maybe next summer.

Is there any experience with different types of foil? Here locally we have a variety of foil available, and the prices differ significantly for whole car wrapping.

1. 3m PPF - price approx 7500EUR
2. Avery Denisson PPF - about the same (I think 3m bought this business from AD, but not sure)
3. Skyfol PPF - approx 5000 EUR
4. UltraFit - approx 3000EUR

All seem to have the same properties - self-healing, UV protection, water repellent, but thickness differs, where the ultrafit foil is the thickest, yet quite clear.

I haven't seen Xpel offered here, so I have no clue where does it land on the pricing chart.
