What's with the windows?

I noticed today that when you open the door the window goes down about a 1/2 inch, and then goes back up when the door it closed. It did it with the car off, not sure if it does it when the car is on, haven't tried yet. Anyone know why it does this?:shrug:

A lot of coupe's with frameless doors do this. If it didn't, you wouldn't be able to open the door. Just pay extra attention to this next time. When I first saw it on my 2012, I figured it out in a couple seconds.

Just to clarify, you can still open your door if the window didn't lower (like if your battery was dead)

As mentioned above, it simply creates the best seal in the car.

mustangs have done that since 05, its because they don't go into a frame at the top of the door

Helps with the seal and keep you from breaking and bending your window due to the angle cut of glass..

My prior 95 BMW M3 did the same...

And the Genesis does it as well, it's become a more common feature over the last 20+ years.

It's called indexing, very common feature on late model cars.

I once was told its purpose is to make closing the door easier due to the pressure relief within the vehicle.

Partially pressure relief, mostly to get a better seal for quieter cruising.
It pushes the window into the rubber molding to prevent leakage and wind noise.

Subaru had to move away from frameless windows, stating it had to do with roof strength regulations. Heard of this?

The Lincoln LS, and 2002-05 T-birds had this feature too (all share some platform architecture to the S197 and much less so to the S550).
