I'm kinda at a standstill with further modding my car. Here is some background.

Had a 2018 base that had the tick, very loud, and was always there on cold start and while hot. Ford didn't buy the car back, but gave me assistance with getting out of the car and into a fully loaded 2019 premium with PP1.

Now, the 2nd one has the tick here and there while hot, nothing as bad as the 2018, but in any case, I want to mod the car.

This brings me with the what would you do. It's our only car, DD for me and the wife.

I would love to throw some headers and do a e85 tune .. at risk of losing the warranty in case something happens.

OR

Dealer said they would cover it if I did the Roush Power Pack or the FP power pack when released, provided they do the install...

What would you do? I was kinda waiting to see what Ford puts out before making a decision, however, if I went with headers and e85 and something happens to that engine my wife will kill me.. literally

I don't see enough feedback on the FP power packs or the Roush in general to say I would be satisfied with the outcome.

No tune intake and catback of your choice and call it a day, or go with the Roush/FRPP but keep in mind I believe both of those options reduce your powertrain warranty to 3yr/36k coverage.

No tune intake can easily be changed and the PCM was never flashed. The catback won’t void the warranty on your engine.

I would not risk running a tune or non reversible mods on a car with the tick. I would run the piss out of the car stock and let it blow if that’s what’s going to happen, have it replaced and then move forward with whatever. Chances are it won’t have any issues.

Im not convinced the tick really means anything yet... Anyone have it with a tune or any sort of power adders? I think I can say the tune on my 2018 made the tick louder, there was a point when i thought the tick was gone, so I reflashed with tune, and tick came back.

DD for you and the wife? I would keep it stock. It is not worth risking.

My 2015 is my only car, but I also bought a base GT. Not a fully loaded PP car. Mine was a good candidate to mod. Plus I drove it for 10,000 miles without any issues. So I was pretty confident that tuning it wasn't going to hurt anything.

What you already have is a great car! If I had your car I wouldn't mod it, even if it didn't have the tick.

If down the road you want to do FP pack or Roush do it at that point. Enjoy driving the car for awhile!

I think in many cases it’s benign. However there’s plenty of documentation of Ford replacing engines, so I would say in some instances it is a major cause for concern.

If my car ticked and Ford didn’t decide replacing the engine was necessary, or was unable to resolve it, I wouldn’t modify anything that could void the engine warranty. That extra bit of power isn’t worth the $8k+ for a replacement engine that could’ve been free.

Agreed. You got a 460hp PP1. Don't throw $ away modding a car b/c you want to. It doesn't need it. You don't want warranty issues anyway on the car. Modding makes sense on little 4bangers with 200hp. Mustang GT is choice as is.

What was this process like getting into that 2019? I am considering this. I have the tick all the time at 13k miles. Who did you talk to first and how did this process go? What did they do to assist you in getting out of the car?

I'd do some suspension work. Probably the safest mod provided it's installed properly. Otherwise, the car in stock form is pretty damn good. Drive it for 15,000 miles and see how your engine is.

Getting a 2019 Mustang GT PP w/ Magneride and active exhaust to replace my 2017 under lemon law. Only going to mod the suspension on the new car now in case new engine gets tick again.

I don't understand this fascination with "bbq" tick... You are hearing a combination of injector tick and lifter tick. DI motors are known to be noisy.

I forgot, all the interweb engineers know everything, and everything on the internet is true.

This.

No way in hell I'd do any engine-related mods on my only car if it was under warranty, unless I had deep pockets. Especially given the issues that seem to be afflicting the Gen 3 Coyote.

Yeah, just going to chime in and echo what others are saying. New car, under warranty, your only shared vehicle that's a DD? I wouldn't introduce any potential out-of-warranty failure issues, unless I was totally comfortable with spending another $5K+ out of the blue, dealing with a rental car, not having your car for 1-2 weeks, etc.

Being the only DD for you and yours I would also echo the common theme. Keep the money and hands off the power train at least. If anything do some 'light' modding of like appearance would be my go to. And even without a warranty, modding power train you could have some potential loss in reliability. Edit - I would even be waiting until I and wife each had a reliable DD.
