I hit about 145 or so in my '72 Mustang years back. The car didn't have a front or rear spoiler, and it felt like the front end began to lift. I decided that I wasn't invincible and let off. With my '15, I hit 125 and figured it could go faster. I suppose with age comes a bit of sense.

These arenā€™t recent highs (1969-1971) so theyā€™re nothing to crow about but kinda funny. Well, interesting anyway.

159 mph sustained for maybe 2-3 miles in a ā€˜69 big block Corvette on what was then known in Athens, GA as the ā€œbypassā€. Coming out of a left-hand sweeper (clenched a hole in the seat upholstery) saw a stationary GA Trooper hiding ahead. Threw out the anchor but went right by him sideways-ish downshifting at 135 and the guy just waved! This on $8.00 recaps.

Then 2 years later in 1971 hit 155 mph for a little less than a mile of GA 2 lane highway on a jetting run astride a Powroll modified 1100cc Honda 750. Pulled back into the shop to discuss the run with a mechanic and while sitting on the bike talking heard a pop and a hiss as the back tire exploded.

Sometimes better to be lucky than smart.

Iā€™ve done the speed limiter in my car for something like 12-15 minutes uninterrupted. No slowing down at all. This was on an unrestricted section of the autobahn early in the morning on the Friday before Easter. I was heading to the NĆ¼rburgring for carfreitag 2019.

Otherwise, Iā€™ve driven thousands of miles, probably 5000+, above 100mph on the autobahn in the year I had my car there. Iā€˜d estimate a thousand or more of those miles were over 130mph.

According to my speedo it was 190 at Cal Speedway in a modified CTS-V. I wanted to get into the 200+, but just didnt have the guts to push it anymore due to the rear getting to loose. Then I remembered something my dad told me "speed is relative to the road in front of you" This is a very true statement . Always remember that.

155 in a BMW e36 M3 Evo (a proper one, not the watered down thing you got in the USA).

I'm not sure what the speedo would have been showing, but I guess with the inaccuracies of a car of that era probably high 160's (some reported an indicated 172 when on the limiter but I'm not sure the Germans would have allowed such a large inaccuracy).

This mustang has been to ~140 at Texas World Speedway on the banked part of the track originally built for NASCAR (in nearly stock 2016 PP1 trim). Hood flutter was kinda dramatic with everything stock.

More recently its been up above 135+ at Circuit of the Americas on the long straight between turns 11 and 12. Its fastest right before the braking zone, and threshold braking from that speed takes some attention, so my eyes were not usually on the speedo.

Car got faster at CotA with some engine mods, but I added a lexan spoiler which is basically a big parachute at high speeds, so it didn't get any faster down that straight. I was just kinda happy the spoiler didn't RUD at those speeds. Next time I go will be with a wing, so it will be interesting to see what speeds it can achieve without the obscene drag of a spoiler that big and vertical.

Bad Tolz to Heidelburg in two hours with fuel stop. 275 or so miles. We were stepping out. Loved it when the Germans would not move out of the left lane until they topped out and had to give us the lane :)

About 450 mph for about 3 hours.

As for the car, it said 157ish and felt a little floaty at that point and beyond, when fuel stopped it said 163.

145 mph in my 2018 GT. This was during the peak of Covid lockdowns so the roads were empty. Car felt very stable and was still pulling hard but I chickened out after that.

I calculated that my Evo would redline at 150mph, and one day I tried it on a straight, flat desert road. I worked my way up to that speed over the course of several minutes, feeling out how stable it was at that speed, so the engine was over 6000rpm for probably 5 minutes.

Sure enough, redline at 7000rpm gave me 150mph. I held that for a minute, making sure I had a good reading. It felt like it had some power left over.
Mitsubishi said the car was governed to 164mph, which sounds pointless considering it reaches redline so much sooner.

It also made the 190mph speedometer look silly.

EDIT: Years later, I was at an HPDE, recording with a GoPro. I recorded myself saying I got up to 135mph on the front straight and "I've gone faster than that on..."
"You know what? Never mind where I've gone faster than that." šŸ˜‡

145 at a abandoned airport. Nice long runway used to be the factory airstrip for the gruman f14. Again hats off to Ford felt like 85 on the interstate. On a long trip out west I can see this car cruising at 120 all day. The only scary thing was how good it felt. The mustang is a autobahn car for sure. I also did 140 on a 03 Honda st1300 for about a mile on Jones Beach parkway straight road for over 10 miles no traffic lights & no traffic great high speed road. Cars have improved so much in 67 I took my new gto to 130 and that was terrifying vs today 140 just feels fast.
I can personally confirm for you that it can 100% sit at 120 to 130 mph all day (Well, 5 to 6 hours). Temperatures are great, cylinder head temps rise barely, from 205 degrees to 215 at most.
only to 140 before heavy braking into 10a at road atlanta, lap after lap. i'd like to see top speed someday somewhere reasonably safe.
If you're ever in Texas, I recommend Hwy 158, between Midland & Sterling City. Wildlife present, so best to do it in the off season. No cops present outside of 1000-1500.

In New Mexico, I've never seen any enforcement between Carrizozo and Vaughn. šŸ˜
On the other hand, I didn't think that road was smooth enough to try 150mph.

I did my test somewhere a lot flatter, with better sight distance.

Wildlife or not, a LOT of New Mexico has cattle. I wanted to be sure I could see it if a cow walked onto the road a mile in front of me. šŸ˜…
