Similar to the "What radar detector do you have?" thread, I'm looking for dash cams and curious to know what you guys are using. I'm also VERY curious to know how everyone has theirs wired.

Because I use MirrorTap for my radar detector, I'd also love to have a nice and clean setup with my dash cam. The "Close Call" thread is very interesting and I actually almost experienced a crazy situation with a driver pulling out in front of me at the last minute yesterday. So now I'm really hoping to get a dash cam installed and functional within the next 2-3 days if I can.

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Kiko! How do you have yours wired? Just goes around the top of the windshield and around the passenger area into the cigarette lighter port (whatever it's called)

Very small, so it hides perfectly behind the rear view mirror. I honesty forget it's there most of the time.

But it still has a screen on it you can use to review any files without a computer or anything if you need to in case of an accident or emergency.

Also 1080p and GPS built in. Anything else is a waste of time to look at :p

I have a Blackvue and have been using it for over a year, and it's amazing. So small it's just about invisible at the top of the windshield, and with one of the wire taps into the back of the mirror, even the power cord disappears. It uses removable micro SD cards which can record 2-8 hours depending on the resolution, and uses wifi to talk to your cell phone so you can see what the camera sees, as well as play back recorded video. It has GPS and speed info right on the recording, so it can be a great way to defend yourself in case of a mistaken case of 'excessive speed" on a public hwy. And you can turn that function off, too, for those times when, well, you know, you just gotta get somewhere right now. Oh yeah, it also records sound.

Be sure to check out the sample videos at the bottom of the article... that's what sold me.

I've been the HP dashcam f500g. Pretty good quality imo at night time.

I have it routed like you mentioned into the passenger kick panel. Wired it to ignition. It has pretty cool features as well as the screen for playback.

Same here. I'm currently using the BlackVue DR600GW-HD w/ a 64GB MicroSD card
Nice. That is a clean install.

I'm using a corded Garmin Dash Cam 20 and haven't found a way to wire power from the rearview mirror just yet...

wish mine didn't break :( (the bracket). the piece with the rubber that holds the camera on the mount broke in half. 25 dollars for a new one, oh well.

I don't have a gopro though, what does your video look like?

I care about infotainment
When I get my car I'm going with the Blackvue 2 channel w/Power magic pro so it records while the car is parked. I'm going to see if my dealer can install it before I pick up the car.
