Got a question I purchased a 2016 GT premium last month. The car came with a legit warranty that is 100,000 miles with no year limit for engine, transmission suspension covering internal lubricated parts. All I have to do is have documented oil changes every 5000 miles and tires rotated every 10,000. I was told I can put a exhaust on it , but no headers or anything that would change the engine. If I want to put a air intake on it the engine will need tuned. Once it has been tuned even if I put it back to factory would they be able to figure that out?

Yes, absolutely. if your warranty is important to you, forget the tune, period. If all you are looking for is a nice cosmetic look then there are CAI’s that do not require a tune. Plus you’ll see a power increase of maybe 2-3 HP. :giggle: :like:

By the way, this “legit” warranty requires oil changes at twice the manufacturers recommendation. Thats very interesting.

So, let me try to understand, you are assuming that a tune would void the warranty and you want to know if they can find out if you had a tune if you remove it before bringing it for warranty work…..
A warranty is a contractual agreement between 2 parties, one parties will pay for covered repairs if the other parties fulfill and respects a few obligations, namely paying the premium, changing oil at a certain intervals, not modifying the car in a way that would void the warranty,,etc
So your real question is that it is ok for you not to respect your obligations , deceive the other party and expect them to pay for repairs that they don’t have to because you voided the warranty by installing a tune?
What do you think is the answer?
It’s called fraud ……

Yes, there is some IDS log file that is modified. They won't be able to see what was changed when you go back to stock but can tell it's been modified. I've got a modified 13 GT that's tuned and have been having problems with the PCM, so I've been digging into it.

Man lots of hate here, especially when LUC is right, of course it’s your decision to listen or not.

Normally people say they wouldn’t piss on someone they don’t like even to put out a fire. You’re skipping a few levels and saying you’d piss on him and light his car on fire!? Seems a little over the top.

Well, he's already contemplating fraud, what's a little assault and battery with a side of arson going to matter...

Obviously beside having some questionable ethics, you also have some anger management issues…
You’re not going to last very long on this forum……

Seriously whoa, whoa folks. I was looking this very same issue up regarding my new GT. So yep if you apply a tune to your Ford they can tell the chip's been flashed every time. If it wasn't done by Ford you void the warranty. But it's been told that some Ford dealers can be mod friendly too. That means your local Ford folks might not hold it against you if something very not tune related breaks. Also means you should make friends with your local Ford folks real soon and feel them out on it. Right now my GT goes as fast (faster) than I'll ever want on legal roads. Looking to Spring and Summer to take it to Track Days events.

Let’s clarify. An aftermarket tune will not “void” your warranty. If a failure occurs that can be traced back to the tune a warranty claim can be refused. Now a mod friendly dealer can help but I certainly wouldn’t rely on this.

For instance, worst case, you blow a motor. No dealer can protect you from this. Ford will ask for the logs and once they do the claim will be refused. Bottom line with any mods is if you cannot afford to pay, do not play.

Ford can deny for whatever reason they want. If they see the PCM was flashed they can and will deny a claim. It would be up to the car owner to then prove the tune wasn't the cause.

Also, one would be foolish to think you can just find a 'tune friendly' dealer unicorn if you need engine warranty service at some point in the future.

So what about going the Ford Performance parts direction? If you pay the premium as I expect their parts are a bit more expensive, you may maintain your Ford warranty too?
