Turns out the hood didn't really come down all that much. Do we actually know if this is true?
I know the hood came down a little. I also know the designers would have liked to move it lower but were not able to due to Euro pedestrian safety requirements. There was a video or article with interviews with the various players on the project, and one of the questions was related to what each person would want if the budget was a little larger. One of the guys said he would want to incorporate a pedestrian safety hood airbag to allow an even lower hood. I am therefore not surprised to hear this rumored concern over the height of the supercharger.

The SVT Cobra will have a 5.2L naturally aspirated V8 with no engine cover. The reason for that is because the new styling (and Euro safety regs) mean a supercharger is not feasible as far as fitting under the hood goes.

Whilst we haven't seen this under the hood of S550, it does state its for the 2015 5.0 GT. So, the assumption has to be a supercharger will fit under S550s hood. But I'm not suggesting that's what GT350 will have :)

As promised, here's your '15 on the 15th update: A sneak peek at the Ford Racing super charger development for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT 5.0.

Will fit yes, but for those Euro regs there needs to be enough space between the hood and engine for a crumple zone should the driver decide to go jaywalker bowling(one of my favorite passtimes btw:lol:).

I got to see the evolution of this reg being implemented in Mercedes designs and basically they did everything they could to simply lower the engine instead of raising the hood.

My point is, it sounds like a supercharger WILL be going under the hood of S550. Now, it could be that being an aftermarket option, it gets around the pedestrian regs because its not "standard".

Of course it will, Mustang owners like to slap a blower on anything. It is/was only a matter of time and money.

It'll be interesting to see what eventually goes under the hood of the (lesser) rumoured GT500 in a few years, assuming it ever sees the light of day. But that's a discussion for a whole other thread

So we know Voodoo is real. Do we know for a fact it will be the GT350 engine?
Yep.

It will. Lots of special S550s planned.

Have a great weekend folks. ;)

Most importantly, is it going to have cobra badges on it? :)

I hope not. Cobra badges on anything other than a Shelby bug me. Ford Mustang Cobra just sound silly. Whereas Shelby Mustang having cobra badges in honour of Shelby Cobras does not. Yeah, I know it's probably just me but I want the new Boss 302 replacement to replace my Boss.

The Mustang was never a true Cobra... and Shelby resented the use of the Cobra moniker on a mere Mustang (or Torino, or Falcon, etc). He never licensed it and tried to enforce his ownership of the "Cobra" name (as he did successfully with the GT350 name in 1984, when Ford stuck a decal on an otherwise-unchanged Mustang and said it was a GT350).
And if there had been a few more bucks in Ford's budget and a better economy (and a better quality job with the disastrous Ford GT, which would have donated chassis parts), there might have been a real Cobra bred from the GR-1 concept. That would have used the Cobra name, and would have been a more appropriate use of the name.
Horse+snake = illogical. Doesn't match.
