Iā€™m surprised no one has tried to swap an Explorer ST TT engine into the S550ā€¦.

Anyways I get it... even back then, the Mustang should have at least came with a 289. If the Mustang was out of reach price wise, people should have saved another couple months instead of buying a straight 6.

The Mustang was originally marketed to woman as the ultimate secretary's car. It really didn't become a performance car until Carroll got involved.

Don't get me started on convertibles. Here in Florida every single person renting a Mustang gets that option... V6 convertible šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ I would rather rent a Jetta!

Here comes the V6 apartment mafia. I wouldn't park my car there any more. Somebody stole your 5.0 badges.... even a dude named Chad knows V6 Mustangs suck.

The 3.7 was a very underappreciated engine in the Mustang for no other reason than it being the "base" engine. No matter what generation Mustang you talk about, the lowest engine option is always ridiculed by the masses. Sometimes it was warranted, like the Fox mustangs having the Pinto 2.3L as the base engine, but in this case the 3.7 had the same power to displacement ratio as the 5.0L of the same years. It made the Mustang a very well balanced, fun to drive, affordable car for a lot of people. It made more power than the pre-2005 GT's, and the MPG was only very slightly less than EB-4, not enough that you'd notice much difference at the gas pump, but over the thousands of cars sold it was enough to help Ford's CAFE numbers.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 2015 V6 for 115k miles, it was as much or more fun to drive than any of my previous 6 Mustangs (some of which were V8's), and still easily averaged 32+mpg on long road trips. My only complaint about it was the lack of premium level trim and options. My primary reason for trading that car was after 3 years of driving a base model I really wanted to step up to a premium model with the 50 Years package, which meant either the EB or GT. I've only ever owned one 4 cyl Mustang, a Fox body I bought new for my wife to drive. Thankfully, that Fox and that wife are long gone out of my life and I'll never buy another 4 cyl Mustang again, turbo or otherwise. If Ford's marketing team can only offer a 4 or V8 option, and I can't afford the V8 then I'll buy used, and I know I'm not the only one who feels that way, so Ford is definitely losing at least some new car sales by not having a V6 in the lineup.

You really are out of touch where the Mustang came from.

If it has a Mustang badge it should be FAST!
The V6 mustang with 3.7 is much faster than a bone stock small block V8 of any year. Except for the Boss 302 and 351 Cleveland but those weren't small blocks they were known as the 385 block and 335 block

You're thinking of the Boss 429, the Boss 302 was definitely not a 385 series (370, 429, 460).

I love when the "true Mustang enthousiasts" come out in these threads stating that Ford ruined the Mustang by offering engines other than a V8 for the first time ever in the S550. These people obviously know nothing about Mustangs and are happy to show it by being blind to the fact that the Mustang has always had multiple straight six, V6, and 4 cylinder options it's entire run. I get that complaint all the time with the Ecoboost, yet it's much faster than my GT Fox body was.

You are right it had the cleveland heads taller block and a lot of other stuff. But not the regular small block

The Boss 302 was absolutely not a 385 or 335 series engine. It was a 302 small block using a beefed up version of the 289 Hi-Po block and connecting rods (BTW it also was NOT a taller deck, it was the same height block as every other 260/289/302), purpose built forged pistons with canted valve reliefs, and 1 off designed cylinder heads with Cleveland size/shape ports but with Windsor engine family water jackets, so not truly Cleveland heads but unique Boss heads. It's interesting they're always called Cleveland 4V heads even though the Boss came out a year before the 351 Cleveland engine.

As previously pointed out, the 385 series engines were based on the 429 big block family. The 335 engines were an intermediate engine family consisting of the 351 Cleveland and the taller deck 351M and 400. More often than not, these engines are simply referred to as Cleveland engines rather than 335 series since they all share the Cleveland style heads, even though Ford never officially used the Cleveland name on any engine other than the 351C.
