When I was just thinking about the 2015 GT I went to the dealer and spoke with an awesome saleswoman for a while. I hadn't even placed an order and, when I was leaving, she said "you wanna test drive that '14? It's not the same but you've never had any seat time in a Mustang."

I ask "is it a manual? It's been a while and I'm not very good."

She replies with "well I don't know how to drive one so I'm sure you'll be fine."

As we're getting in she says "okay, you can't drive it like a pansy!"

By far the best dealer experience I've ever had. I plan on test driving a '15 if they get one in before my car shows up and, unless it's sold, I'm betting they'll let me.

I have been in contact with my local Ford dealer (Auto nation Ford in Torrance, CA). Last week they called me to let me know that they are going to have the demo/training vehicle at their dealership if I wanted to come by and take a look.

I ended up taking a longer than normal lunch break and headed over to the dealership. My first impression was WOW. I loved the look of the car. I actually didn't mind the yellow color all that much. The lines on the car looked good but the interior was even better. Having owned a 2002 Mustang GT I was shocked by the improvements Ford made on the interior. I was a little disappointed that we weren't able to test drive the vehicle but I could understand since it was the demo/training vehicle. Anyways the dealership told me they had a few on the way in the next couple of weeks so they will keep in contact with me.

Yesterday I was out running errands which brought me by the same Ford dealership. To my surprise in the front of the lot they had a Black 2015 Mustang GT with the 50th anniversary package. Basically all the options I wanted. As I was walking over to the car the salesman I have been dealing with recognized me and said we got it in earlier this week go check it out, but I'm dealing with some other people right now. I thought to myself ok well why didn't you call me earlier this week. After looking at the exterior of the car and drooling over how beautiful it looks especially in Black another salesman approached me asked if I had any questions. I asked if he can please unlock the vehicle, which he did after 15 minutes. Now I'm in the car getting more excited. Again, totally impressed over the interior. I asked the salesman if we can take it for a test drive. I was shocked to here his answer. He told me NO. I asked why. He's reply was its a Mustang, the new Mustang you know its going to handle well. At first I thought he was joking but then he proceeded to tell me that there is a $5,000.00 mark up on the vehicle so that's another reason why you can't drive it. I asked him how many people would spend $47,500.00 on a car and not drive it before. He said well the employees aren't even able to drive it. I said well that makes sense to me because if they are in the market to purchase a car why put miles on the vehicle. He ok fine I will ask the sales manager if you can drive it since you are making a big deal about it. I got out of the Mustang and started walking to my car. He asked where I was going. I said this dealership just lost my business, I will look elsewhere. $5,000.00 mark up, have to beg for a test drive not worth it.

Hour after my experience I receive a phone call from the dealership. It was from the original salesman I was dealing with. He asked if I would like to come back and take a test drive on the car. I told him no. I told him I have been in the market for a while looking for a new car. I have it narrowed down to 3 cars. Audi S3, Cadillac ATS coupe, and the Mustang. Just on shopping experience the Audi, and Cadillac dealerships hands down are the best. They were pulling cars off the showroom floor for me. Look and style I love the Mustang but since this was going to be my daily driver, I wanted to feel the ride quality of the vehicle but that seemed like to much to ask for at your dealership. I told him I'm already in contact with another Ford dealer.

Anyone else have a similar experience? 5,000.00 mark up, no test drive?
This is what happened to me when AutoNation Torrence received that car you saw on October 6th. I called them cause I knew the car was delivered and they told me I couldn't test drive it because it was a 50th year package one. I laughed at him over the phone and told him I will deal with another dealer. Galpin let me test drive one 2 days later!

Wow that's crazy to hear. This is where I ordered my car from. Jerry S called me ahead of the 2015 arrivals and said he'd try and get me a test drive once they came in. (too bad im out of state).

Hopefully they dont pull any bs when my car (xplan) comes in.

Did you purchase or lease your S3? I really liked how the vehicle handled but I'm looking to purchase a new car and I hear Audi's become expensive to maintain once they are 4-6 years old. After hearing that I'm hesitant to purchase one.
I leased it,
I have had good luck with my last Audi (TTS) so I leased this one. I too am looking to get a new S550 Mustang but I am waiting to see what 1st year problems will be like.

I really like the S3..Can you let me know what the pros and cons are of the car? I am also worried about the maintenance on Audi. With BMW you get it covered but with Audi you are on the hook.

...it looks like I have to be a member for 2 months before I could use it.
This is false. You have to have a minimum membership of sixty days - not have to have been a member for sixty days.

MCA memberships are $50 for a year. That should have you covered.

Really!! wow that is good news. Do all dealerships honor XPLAN? Do you know anyone that has purchase a vehicle and was a member for less than 60 days? If so I'm going to sign up today?

Before I go into answering your questions, I would highly recommend checking this thread out. It specifically covers things related to X-Plan ordering.

Do all dealerships honor XPLAN?
From what I understand (which is very little), no. It is, however, rare to find one that doesn't. I have seen people post talking about how a dealer didn't honor X-Plan on specific vehicles or not at all. I would recommend just stopping by the dealers you are looking at and asking them if they participate in X-Plan pricing. That's what I did. I'm sure a phone call or an e-mail would work as well, but it's hard to beat physically talking to a salesperson.

I do not. Again, it can't hurt to clarify with your specific dealer, but according to the X-Plan pricing rules, section 3, PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY:

  • For employees of eligible partner companies, you must provide a recent pay stub, company I.D., W-2 or company healthcare card. All are acceptable items to verify employment. (Note: business cards will not be accepted as proof of employment). The dealership must list the company or organization's name on the AXZD-Plan Pricing Agreement.
  • For residents in the same household as the eligible employee/retiree, driver’s licenses’ will be required for proof of residence.
  • For membership-based partner companies, you must provide a membership card that indicates a 60-day minimum membership.
About a week after signing up with MCA, you'll receive a membership card with the expiration date printed on it. This should be sufficient for proving a 60-day minimum.

I have one even better. Cavalier Ford in Chesapeake, Va would not move the car from the 40 degree incline by the entrance to see if my wife could see over the hood comfortably. It was not on a lift, just the parking lot. A test drive was totally out of the question, it is a Mustang for Gods sake, not a LaFerrari. They lost any chance of me ever buying a vehicle from them. He had no idea whether I was there to buy or kick tires.

At least until these cars are in full supply, it seems like it is a good idea only to buy from the largest volume dealer in your metro area. The small guys are just being way too precious with their allotment.

The markup alone would cause me to walk out. And the salesperson's comments are rather humorous.

No matter whether you end up with an Audi, Caddy, or a Mustang, if you have time I would stop in the dealership again and show your new car to him and his GM.

Plenty of places offering these cars for MSRP or maybe less. And Veterans Ford here in Tampa is already listing discounts on some of their incoming models, and they're not even on the lot yet.

I currently don't have a XPLAN pin. I was researching on how to obtain one but it looks like I have to be a member for 2 months before I could use it. I was hoping to purchase a Mustang within the month. Will Rigo be able to help out on the price if I don't have XPLAN?
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the way I read the XPLAN is that you have to have at least 6 months membership, meaning you bought some subscription plan for 6 months or longer ie: you pay for a $50 year membership at MCA and you're good to go since the plan is annual. Not that you've been a member for 60 days (physical time). As others said you will get your code shortly after you pay for the membership. Once you have the code that's all you need at the dealer.

You are 100% correct. You can sign up for MCA and get your PIN immediately.

I can actually understand dealerships who do this. I'm positive if they knew you were very interested in making a deal, they would have let you. But you have to realize that tons of people see the mustang, thing it looks cool, and want to kick the tires with no interest in purchasing it. After a while, who is going to want that mustang and pay a brand new price on the car when it has 300 miles on it? When I was in the market for an STI a few years back, I walked into a dealership and asked to test drive it. They said they didn't do that on the STI variants. We talked for a while, haggled over price, and then the salesman walked away, grabbed the keys, and we took it for a spin. I wound up not buying, so you can probably blame me for contributing to dealerships not wanting to allow test drives.

They did handle it poorly, I'll give you that. People suggesting they just get a 'beater' 2015 for people to test drive.. do you realize how many stangs they'd have to sell just to offset the price of that one car?

Not that it matters since the MCA minimum membership is inclusive of both, but it's 60 days.

For membership-based partner companies, you must provide a membership card that indicates a 60-day minimum membership.
