V6 or Ecoboost

I am on the fence about whether to order the v6 or ecoboost. I am currently deployed and I am about to order my car soon so I can have it when I get back to the states. I don't want to wait for all of the aftermarket parts to come out to see the individual gains. I want to mod my car a little (full exhuast, cai, tune, and some suspension upgrades). Which car do you guys think will respond more to those mods?

Ecoboost will definitely respond well to those mods.

A turbo car will respond better to mods, as you're taking off the conservative boost levels on the turbo as well with a tune. With a full exhaust, CAI, and tune I'd say you'd be looking at around 25-40 hp on the v6, and 30-45 hp on the turbo. The torque is the big story however, with around 30-40 ft-lbs of gain on the torque for the v6 but near 80-100 ft-lbs for the ecoboost. Take a look at the power gains on some easy mods on the 2014 v6 and compare it to power mods on a current 2.0L ecoboost Focus ST.

I seen the stage 3 kit from cobb gave the focus peek gains of 26% on 93. I feel stupid asking this question but is it horsepower or torque that makes cars go faster in a straight line?

here is a rough saying to help understand the relationship between torque and horsepower:
torque gets you there, horsepower keeps you there.

regarding the v6 or turbo argument one thing to keep in mind is that the turbo car will require premium fuel to make even its advertised power.

HP=(RPM * Torque) / 5252

High bottom end torque low hp motors (think Harley) give you a nice initial kick, motors that can still produce good torque at elevated rpm are high horsepower. Like 1320' said.

As you get into it more you need to start looking at torque/speed curves though, the maximum numbers do not tell you that much of the story.

Torque gets you moving, horsepower keeps you moving. There is an equation relating the two. To go fast, you basically want a torque band that comes on early, carries, evens out, and doesn't drop off. The v6 and eco boost both kind of die out around 5500 rpm and on, so the car feels limp at that end but both have good torque in the mid range.

Get the EB..!

Another Pro tip, the torque curve directly mirrors acceleration rate.
(not acceleration, but the rate of that acceleration.)

Wait to come back and drive both. Last thing you want is regret buying something and then not liking it. And that could be either. But I can tell you that you have a bigger chance of being disappointed with the EB then the V6. V6 has been there done that. EB is just new. It's a new sound, feel, etc. Some may like it, some may not. Reviews are mixed. Some amazing ones, some that are MEH.
