But how many gen 2 motors are even out there compared to previous? The ideal situation is that they are always improving but it might be too early to make that call.
So far most 2019, all 2020, and most replaced motors this year... GT500 motors are on the same block so we should have more info next year... but 2019+ motors arenā€™t having the same oil burning issues that the 17s had at birth or in early days.

Will agree. My 19 motor is doing great. Though honestly my 17 motor did not burn a lot of oil, it was the rods that let go.

Iā€™m pretty sure I read the 19 motor has upgraded rods and a forged crank sprocket, so Iā€™m happy.

thank you, i meant size, not ratio.
I think they call it the Super 8.8 same as in the 350.
The only upgrade gear from Ford that I know is a 4.09.
I was going to do that if I did a boosted 350, but for now Iā€™ll just add boost to the 500.
People fear the gear, but with drag radials, the 4.10s were a game changer in my ā€˜14 GT500.

I donā€™t think you would want a 4.09 rear end in boosted GT 350.
The trans fourth gear is 1.24 , so with the 3.73 rear and 27.4 drag radials (only ones that fit the 19 wheels ) you could stretch it out to 144 mph @8200 in the 1/4(if thatā€™s your thing ).
With a 4.09 you would be changing into 5th gear @131 mph .

good to know. Id like to go to 3.90. doesnt seem like much, but for cars that rev higher, and since the shifts are so fast anyway, any downside is negated, i think another 1-2mph can be had from the 1-2% change in multiplcation for my roll racing/2nd gear starts, as well as desired rpm through thetraps for the 1/4. At least for the majority of racing i do, the calcs show thats going to be optimal for me.

Add to that the stresses/unknowns of the DCT, im very hesitant to throw more tq at it down low, so i doubt ill opt for the 4.xx

Actually rear gearing adds mechanical advantage to the drivetrain, so it actually helps the trans and clutch/clutches live.
Best example, the 2.66 first gear/3.31 rear gear stock ā€˜13-14 GT500 was a clutch killer for many, especially when a sticky tire was used. I added 4.10s and a taller DR (315/35/20 about 29ā€) and made ten or more 10s passes on the stock clutch.
It looked perfect when the trans was removed.
So, my point is the extra gearing of the 4.09 or 3.90 will actually HELP the DCT live.
As far as 4.09 vs 3.90, if the 3.90 is not available the difference can be negated by a taller tire. Usually performance calculators use 28ā€ as the standard, so a taller 29ā€ tire effectively makes the 4.09 into close to a 3.90.
Good luck.

Thank you, very informative.
Quarter mile is more my thing, but I ewouldnā€™t use a boosted 350 for strip use, just street and top speed fun.
Plus Iā€™d probably run a slightly taller tire 28-29ā€ either R888R.
Iā€™ve never been one to fear the gear, and with an 8250rpm screamer that doesnā€™t stop pulling under boost, I think Iā€™d love the 4.09 both on and off boost.
The 4.10 upgrade to my 2014 500 makes the car SO MUCH better off boost.
Friends donā€™t let other mustang friends drive 3.31s :)

Thats an interesting observation. Im having difficulty visualizing though. Gives me something else to research sonce we dont have to repel anti 500 trolls anymore.

Richmond makes the super 8.8 gears ratios to fill the FP void

Here are the current non-FP super 8.8 IRS offerings.
Nice to have options.

As far as visuals go, just think of the weakest link and where the mechanical advantage falls in trying to accelerate 4000#. If you have a 3.73, the trans clutches have to work harder to overcome a rear with less mechanical advantage or less available torque than a 4.09 rear. Again why guys in the previous S197 GT500 would burn through stock clutches when drag racing with 3.31s vs no clutch issues in 4.10 geared cars.
Good luck!

3.31 gears are great for roll racing and higher speed racing.4.10 gears are garbage for type of racing:crackup::cwl:
