I had my truck sprayed with NH oil undercoating with the thought of doing my car as well. Holy crap, after seeing the results, it is not happening.
Is there a rust preventative that anyone here has used and can recommend? One that is not as nasty as the oil and I had seen that there is an ambient temp sensor on the fuel pump that if plugged will set off codes.

I have a relative in NY that oils his vehicles, and yes, it is kind of nasty....at least his results are. He does it himself.

In that you live in Massachusetts, I can understand your concern. I grew up in NW PA and the first thing my dad did to a car after purchase was Ziebart it. I recall in my younger years, Ziebart material was black, and later years Ziebart's material transitioned to a somewhat translucent yellow tint. I'm sure there are other good undercoating systems available to compare.

BTW...If you already have rust started to any extended degree, an undercoating can be your enemy based on what I've seen from the better car restorers. Being that your Mustang is a '22 maybe you are safe in that aspect.

Biggest mistake I ever made with a vehicle was using NH oil undercoating. It completely rotted my frame out. I'm shocked anyone still uses that garbage.

If you're going to undercoat fluid film is a much better, less messy option that actually works.

It lives outside nowadays but only has 5,100 or so miles on it. I am torn over this right now.
On the drive home from getting my truck done my windshield kept getting oil flying up from the front. I will wash it in a few days and hope the stink is gone by then. It is parked in the field for now.

I use crc heave duty marine anti corrosion spray and only apply to areas that show some sign of trying to rust.

What about applying Woolwax or Fluid Film? Used it on previous SUV's, but had to apply each fall. Kept the rust from forming on the undercarriage. I haven't decided if I will apply it to the Mustang though.

Fluid film works great, it dries waxy and keeps salt and water off the metal. I've used it on prior vehicles. It will wash off on the highest traffic areas like suspension components near the wheels, so it's not perfect. But it's still effective, cheap, and you can do it yourself.

Modern car unibodies are very well protected and galvanized, so you really only need to spray the stamped steel components like the subframes.

I just realized @Johnny Rockit that with the oil treatment you probably limited your future options, didn't it? I'm not sure how many treatments will be compatible with an oil film. Hate that for you. A dilemma for sure.

The waxy stuff last for decades.
