Early prevention is the only way to win the battle. Once you have significant rust it's a losing proposition. You can slow to an extent, but salt and corrosion always win.

Ask me about my 4runner...
Well yeah but rust that starts in places you can't get to isn't preventable alot of times. It's impossible for anything to get in there unless you go cutting and drilling the frame and body and stuff. Did you see the photo? It's pretty bad but not a total loss yet. I think if when the weather cools down I remove the bumper and wire wheel it then I'll be solid and toss some por 15 overtop of it and then as someone else recommended, krown oil undercoating. 150$ a year isn't bad since they warranty it. If any coated panel rusts they will replace that panel for free.

Lol I'm not dumping a car because of rust. Every single car will rust there. It's just a bad design by Ford. Any and all water that hits the trunk and back window is directly towards that small spot. If you live around an area that salts that means salt gets out in there and it sits since car washes would never touch that spot. Not even undercarriage sprayers. Stuck in-between spot welds aswell. It's not from collision repair eithervits all OEM. Did some digging and it appears pretty common for s550s to rust there. I'll bet you have some rust there too but no one ever really looks there because there's no reason to unless the rear bumper is off and your replacing that crash bar
I never keep a car long enough to rust though flaking and dissolving metal from rust is not good. However, since my rear bumper will be off soon I'll take a look and be proactive. Thanks for that info.
