Hey guys,

I am going to be installing the Mach 1 shaker kit soon, CDC instructions indicate to remove the under hood insulation and discard it. Doesn't all MACH 1's need that??? since the GT350 intake and rubber gasket makes contact with it, keeping it sealed and keeping hot air from engine out. It actually has an outline built into insulation.. Just wondering...

Thanks Anthony

If your kit retains the current air box, then you are correct that it will no longer seal and will pull in hot underhood air increasing your IAT. Lots of people have cut a piece of plexiglass to seal the top of the box inside of the existing rubber ring and still retain the ability to look at the dirty air filter. Not hard at all and would solve your issue I think.

Hey,
thanks for your reply! Oh ok, got it!!! I was also thinking of cutting that 1 piece of underhood insulation that mates w rubber and leave that underneath if the pushpins line up in that area. I have to check!

Thanks Anthony

Interesting concept. However, before proceeding any further, I would think that a before/after chassis dyno test (with & w/out exterior fan) should be done at this point. ESPECIALLY if someone is looking into producing this item. Just sayin' ...

It's only to keep the water and hot air out, not power gains. For me anyways

The cover solution was made because a lot of track guys have vents on their cars and blocking water, as mentioned above, and avoiding suffocating the filter was the prime objective

1) It would be pretty trivial to keep as much insulation as you want to keep (while removing the necessary area where the actual shaker goes.

2) Levittown sells a kit to convert a GT350 airbox (which I think the Mach 1 shares?) to a closed airbox with the GT500 airbox lid, so that's a good option too.

So, what are you all doing to protect the cut edge of the hood insulation after installing a shaker or Race Louvers?

I'd like to see more information on how the fastened cover, shown above, is attached. The rubber seal and support ring are not flat surfaces so any additional details are appreciated.
