Lots of things people overlook with superchargers. For instance the cats. I wouldn't get a non warrantied supercharger without going headers and after market cats. I've lost 1 already (about to lose the other if the nuclear backfires are an indication) and I know guys (who own 18+ stangs) who are on their 4th cat replacement. If you go with a kit like Ford Performance or Roush Phase 2 with the newer ltr and calibration the power and torque is nuts. But be prepared to deal with calibration issues, heat, and repairs like cats. Non-warrantied kit then I personally would obviously go off road headers (18+ stock cats have issues), good tunes for different fuels or octane boosters, and maybe opg.... Or you could just send it and set aside $5k for repairs and build the car as you go.

The other thing is putting the power to the ground. Before supercharger 0-60 4.5 on dusty country backroads. After supercharger and now worn tires 5+ sec. If all you're doing is 60-130 runs then you're good but otherwise good luck. Sure a good tire and suspension mods will fix that but not for long. My expensive tires lasted one summer and now I can't launch. But I have roasted everything I have come up against above 60mph.

Can't speak to fbo with e85 but I personally would either set aside money for repairs or make sure my dealer is mod friendly which from reports I have read from other posters there are a lot of them out there.

That really depends on your ultimate goals with the car. I had a flex fuel tune and am now supercharged so you could do the tune now and later on go the supercharger route if you so choose.

The tune is about 10% of the cost of supercharging and provides 80-90% of the performance unless you add more mods and custom tuning to the supercharged version. If I had it to do over again, I would have just kept the tune and probably requested an E85 race tune to accompany the flex fuel tune.

It really depends on what your goals are and what your budget allows. An E85 tune will offer a pretty decent gain, and should allow for mid to low 11s in the 1/4 for under $1000. A new supercharger is going to be near 10x that. It will offer way more power, but you'll also need the supporting mods to handle it as well.

Kevinvan6000 makes a good point. Superchargers add a lot of low end torque. Street tires basically go up in smoke if you go WOT from a dig. Upgraded tires and some suspension mods are really needed to get the most out of the supercharged version. The E85 tune adds substantially sharper throttle response and much improved mid-range torque compared to stock but is a little less brutal from a dig than a supercharged version.

To me, the supercharged version is sort of like a nuclear bomb. It is good to have but you need to be careful how and when you use it. :)

Both routes are awesome and worthwhile. But I would definitely start by doing a long-tube set up with e85 and 47lb injectors first. Aftermarket tuning from Lund or Palm Beach Dyno are both great options for N/A or boost. you car can literally make over 500whp on E85 + more breathing. This will more than make you happy for at least a good bit while showing you not only what the car feels like with a decent power increase but reveal other areas (like suspension) that need help. Save up while enjoying the car like this and then go for a supercharger.

i had a lund e85 tune..and now have a supercharger. still tuned by lund.

my advice, if you are questioning the supercharger, go for it now. If you do the tune and such now and then do the supercharger later, that will be at least an additional $500 youll have to pay for that tune. if you like the power or want the power, then eventually youll be getting the supercharger. so my suggestions are this, i wish i would have done my first one but my second one worked out as well.

1) go ahead and research thoroughly now and get the supercharger now and then the tune. Don't do the tune and then the supercharger, that will just be (sort of) wasted money in the long run.

2) (what i did). Go ahead and get the e85 tune now (will kind of be wasted money later on as youll need a new tune when you go forced induction). BUT, do not buy mods that will come with whatever supercharger kit you may get in the future. for example, the 47lb injectors recommended above. IF you do research and decide to get a kit that comes with those injectors, sure..maybe. But if you decide on a kit in the future that comes with say..fic 1000 or ID 1050..then just hold off on the injectors until you get the ones that come with the kit. Same goes with CAI, throttle body, intake manifold (dependent on centrifugal or PD)..etc etc. Anything you buy now that comes with a kit you get in the future will be wasted money, even if you sell some of it you wont get back the full amount. There is the option of getting a tuner kit that doesn't come with injectors and such..but still, my advice holds true on that and is something to consider as youll need a certain size injector for the kit, especially if you go e85 with your supercharger in the long run.

3) If you think that youll get the supercharger in the long run, but dont want to pay for it at this point in time, then id say hold off even on the tune. get all of your supporting mods in the mean time...suspension, wheels etc and then youll be more than ready to support the supercharger in the future.

just my opinion. I enjoyed my NA e85 tune while i had it but wanted more. Not long after i went for a supercharger and kind of felt like my money on the e85 tuning was wasted as i could have just went straight for the supercharger tune and saved a few hundred dollars.

Tune and E85 really wakes them up; supercharger will too. Really comes down to what your goals are with the car. Hit me up and we can get you dialed in whichever route you want to go!

Depends.

Do you daily this car? Can you afford for it to go down? More power, more problems.. regardless of your choice of boost.

I prefer to have customers complete supporting mods prior to boosting but it is ultimately your money.

The MOST fun I have had in a Gen3 was a FBO E85 w/ mild suspension upgrades (CB005/CB762/sway bars/SP080).. Took it to autocross and some street pulls.

With that being said, I acknowledge we, as humans, always want more. It is in our nature and I have fell to this as well.. My 2020 GT has ~ 75 miles on the odometer with a blower, fuel system, full exhaust, custom exterior mods... you get the point. It's a mess and never ending.. but I digress.

Start with that E85 flash and see how you like the car... want a tad more? Throw on some headers..

We're always here to help at Lethal if you have any other questions or want pricing.

The car is not a daily driver.

Since I live in Central PA and it gets cold in the winter, but not much snow anymore (so car could be driven in cold temps) will there be any issue with E85 in the winter and how difficult to go to a 93 tune in the winter if need be?

Winter blend is not typically the best. Have you ever tested it by you? As long as it is consistently E70+, it'll be fine. You can swap between the tunes easily. I just let my car die out at a gas station then swap.. Always cautious on first fill up.

There's nothing better than being blown!
Yeah umm there's nothing better than your NA S500 handing a 2010 Roush 427R Mustang it's ass. Twice times, then 1 more time after that.

while i agree, its also somewhat apples to oranges imo.

try it vs an s550 roush and see if the outcome remains the same.
