I just recently upgraded the horse power in my 21 Gt with a VMP Odin (750HP/588ftlb). I upgraded my tires to a NT555R2 (275/40/19). The DR’s don’t hook in first after warming them up on the street. I was wonder if going to maybe a 305 size would help. I was told that the contact patch on wide tires are not always better. Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. This is daily street car no track use.

G2s aren't DRs they are summer tires and not even great ones. If you have the R2s in the back they will hook better but at a 275/40 you'll still see a decent amount of spin in 1st if your not good on the throttle.

That’s completely my error. They are the R2’s.

Without going with a true drag tire, there isn't much out there that will hook in 1st. I have the same problem with my Nitto Rii. When they were new, they would hook in 2nd and 3rd but with about 2500 miles, they will spin in those gears now.

Do you have wheel hop too? If so, have you considered adding a Stop the Hop Kit?

305s should help your traction then as long as you keep or increase the sidewall as well.

I don’t have wheel hop at the moment. Just first gear is like ice on the street. I might consider a smaller rim and larger sidewall tire. Just getting the hang of things at the moment. My first forced induction car.

What Pressure COLD? 1st gear hook on asphalt with that much power isn't going to happen.

Once you get the spinning under control, the FI puts a huge smile on your face. :)

You went straight for the jugular with the HP increase. My NA car can get squirrely sometimes. The very issue you're having is why I am leaning toward not going FI. Good luck man!

I thought that weight rack on the back was a rubber bumper for backing up into a tight garage or something. Nice and easy way to add and remove weight when needed.

I think most are referring to a street drag radial....Nitto 555rii.

Some want to be able to hook as best as possible when on the street.

Some don't want to change tires for those very few trips to the drag strip....if any.

Some don't have two different sets of wheels and tires and not able to switch back and forth.

I am sure there are more reasons.

Sort of like why build a car for the drag strip, but yet want it to be street drive-able. (Many want to be able to do both). I know I wouldn't spend $50k plus for a new car and only drive it on the drag strip. If it was only going to be a drag car, I would start out with a different/much cheaper platform...but that is me, of course there are those that do exactly that, and nothing is wrong with it.

Everyone has their own reasons for what they do. Not trying to be blunt, but that is just how it is.
