TREMEC (REVERSE LOCKOUT)

There seems to be an issue with the Reverse Lockout for my Tremec. When I pull up on it sometimes it gets stuck in the up position (have to manually push it down). Seems to happen randomly (only 3 times so far - I have 26K miles). Question any of you had this issue? I will pull it apart soon but wanted to ask if any of you found a fix. perhaps lubrication where the lockout slides? Seems like a easy fix with a new part I will definitely NOT send it to dealer for this minor issue.

That part is a significant source of NVH though. A lot of owners, myself included, have what sounds like a "gear hiss" and that slider ( or what ever it connects to and activates) contributes to it.

If I'm driving normally or hard, and I pull up on the slider, I can hear the hiss go away. Granted, I probably wouldn't have noticed, it but there is an audible difference with the slider up. Now when I really want to enjoy the sound of the car, I will shift with the slider up.

You might also want to check that the lockout collar isn't "sticking" to the shift knob when you pull up on it..

I have always wanted MGW lol. Although the Tremec shifter is fantastic. I am assuming you got the MGW how did you like the improvement over the stock shifter?

Does this shift like a video game arcade machine? I had a 02 mustang that came with a short shifter and it was like playing a video game. Didn't not particularly like it.

I love my MGW. I changed because I got tired of flimsy-ness problems, and trying to match up shift knobs I liked, with reverse lockout collars I liked. (Now I have extra wasted-money-on shift knobs and collars, but it's so worth it.).)

I wasn't sure about it for an hour, because it seemed to take more force to get it into gear -- but getting into the gears was great. Notchy but precise. No back and forth slop.

Now, I don't remember ever needing more force to shift.

Throws are definetly shorter, faster and more affirmative. It’s very difficult to miss a shift even if you tried too. The down and over for reverse is much better than the lift lockout factory. There’s no NVH. It just instills much more confidence than the factory shifter, which admittedly isn’t real bad compared to a lot of other factory shifters.

Never heard that about a a Tremec shifter before.

Love the Tremec. Heck, I had no problems with the Getrag either. I was referring to the flimsy-ness of the plastic pieces, both used for the lockout collars and for the three little prongs that grip the lockout collar, which break off if you look at them crosswise.
