Took a trip to Nevada from LA, the car felt a bit off drive to Nevada a lot of stop and go traffic was making 5th to 3rd gear harsh. Made it to Nevada everything felt fine, got something to eat before heading home after a 4 hour drive back home, I started to notice the car was taking a bit to change gears then it normally does it was hanging in gear more so I parked, turned the car off and got food. I put the car in reverse, as I was rolling back I gave it a bit of gas but it wasn’t moving? It felt it like it was in neutral!? I put it back to D and my digital dash said I was in 10th gear? So I put it in park and then reverse to try to leave and same thing it went into “ neutral “ when it was actually in R so I turned the car off waited a bit and it went in reverse fine, but all the gears were acting off, had to drive the car with the paddles to help the car makes the changes. I need help the car has 40k miles I just need a lead so I can start to investigate before I can take it to the dealership

Sounds like a valve body issue to me - can't get correct line pressure for engagement of the gears.

Has your 10R80 ever been checked for low fluid?

Also to note, even though your at 40k, which is past the new car 3/36, the Powertrain Warranty is 5/60, so you're still covered from that perspective.

You can try checking the fluid yourself - this is the main 10R80 thread, go to Page 1, Post 1 and scroll down the the fluid fact, which has the links for checking:

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...tions-to-harsh-or-no-shift-conditions.135463/

If fluid level is fine (or even if you needed to add fluid), and the shifting is still not working, then the issue would need to be checked out by the Dealer and may be covered under the 5/60 Powertrain.

Frank,

What mode were you driving in when this happened (Normal, Sport+, Track)?
On my 2020 GT, I have seen the gear display indicator show that I was in 10th gear when I initially put it in drive, but it quickly changed to 1 without any hesitation or bucking. This has happened to me a few times. However, I have not experienced the trans slipping like you did when you were in reverse.

Hey, I was driving in normal mode the whole way. I was basically cruising the whole way back home. :/

Thank you I will try to check it myself. This is helpful thanks again!

Try doing a KAM reset before even taking it to the dealer. If the cars not throwing codes most dealers wont even bat an eye. They'll drive it up the street and say its operating as designed. Been there done that.
I have a Procal 4 to reset things easily, but disconnect the negative battery cable for a bit. Does the same thing. See if that helps. It will shift rough the first drive, but should smooth out. If nothing changes then take it in.

Car is at the dealer now, car drives fine after 4th gear. 1,2,3 hesitate to move the car from a dead stop the car starts to mover after passing 4/5k rpm then shifts to 3rd and also 3/4k rpm’s after it reaches 4th gear the car runs fine. I’m not sure what’s wrong also reverse doesn’t work unless you gas it past 3/4k. Doesn’t sound like anything is broken, any thoughts?

They sure made it difficult to check the trans oil. Seems to be no point other than dealers service. Who probably don't get the level right anyhow.

I need to get under there and check mine. I think it could shift better.

UPDATE - So turns out they're replacing the whole trans! Would of never thought the damage was that major! Again nothing sounded damaged or broken, it just wouldnt engage in gear although it would engage if i let it sit for a bit but whenever Reverse was used it gave out all over again.

I should be getting my car back today its been about 2 weeks a some change. I will reply how it drives but it should all be good.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

It's beyond stupid that there isn't a conventional trans dipstick in these things. Same situation with my F150 with the A10.

Frank,
Did they give you a loaner car or a rental for free?

The way it works now well at least here, they pay up to $30 dollars a day for the rental but wont pay sales tax per day, so you would have to pay sales tax for the vehicle X amount of days. And my insurance doesn't cover rentals i removed it this year too  lol. But then i would be paying insurance and the sales tax per day.

So i guess to answer your question... Yes? But i didnt take it
