Please give me one reason why the official government tire wear test is arbitrary instead of just making a statement as though you are the world's foremost expert on tire wear.

And remember the definition of the word arbitrary when you share your infinite wisdom.
Arbitrary: based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system.
Dude - do the minimum and at least try reading about it. It has very little to do with actual government. My info comes from tire engineers at Michelin and Bridgestone, not some purely theoretical knowledge of what I think treadwear rating is. Seriously - you got into convoluted discussion about proving some nonsense about extremely sticky tires being the reason for car being better and keep going deeper and deeper into nonsense. I (and few others - much better drivers than me) have driven 1/LE on the very same TW200 tires in the very same sizes - which takes "extremely sticky tires" that one has and other doesn't out of equation.

I don't know, with all the free money being handed out there is a thing called inflation. Hasn't hit the new car market...yet.
This aged quickly, nice prediction. Prices of Mustangs just went up.

Hmm, would I trade my PP2 for a M1 if they gave me what I paid for my PP2. It would depend on if the M1 was a HP, and what they wanted for it.
Knowing how much I love my PP2 now, but also knowing how much I like the M1; it would really come down to how much disposable funds I have. Right now I'm not even considering a trade.

They were real close to what I paid for it. I have put some cash already in the car as far as mods and just can’t see going in more debit right now to buy it. I’m just going to stick with the car I have now unless something changes.

It feels like this tire discussion has outgrown the thread...

Well I did sell my PP2(LOVED IT) but getting a couple Grand less then what I got it for about 2 years ago I could not pass up. We leased an Explorer ST which will be my wife's and pocketed the $$$$!! Now I will take my time as I debate what to get. GT350, GT500, MACH 1, Roush Stage 3, pre owned 911 and others.. I miss the PP2 a bunch but these kind of prices for used cars will not last. Hell I might even get a PP2 again. Who knows. I do struggle with the Mach 1. If I did that I would be in the same boat but in 6 months(just tossing a number out there) they might be going for 3-4-5 grand under sticker?? Then it would probably be in the garage. I go in circles with what I want non stop which is free so that's fine. 911's I have ALWAYS loved as well and I know I could get certain ones I love and probably sell it for what I bought it for or more in a year or 2. Looking is fun though and I am enjoying it.

If you never owned a 911 before I vote for the 911.

I'm no expert and dont have any facts but I'll throw in my 2 cents but I may be wrong. I thought the tire manufacturers rated their own tires, without any govt involvement, but may be wrong. Wasnt this a big thing a few years ago, tires being rated too high a number for wear? As for the price for Camaros, my buddy bought a 17 50th annv "Fifty" Camaro, he said it was 57 grand four years ago. They come fully loaded. Knowing him, and how bad he wanted it, he prob paid full MSRP.

I think the problem is people are putting waaaaaay too much stock in the treadwear rating as an absolute measure of relative track performance capability. Yes tire softness / hardness plays a role but so does tread design, sidewall construction, etc.

That's exactly how it is. But if someone comes up with some nonsense theory and reality doesn't fit in it, we end up with a discussion like above.

Here's some good information that may help people understand tire construction.

I usually wait for some other people to try out a tire before I jump in on them. I don't have the budget to end up with a crappy track day tire.
