If you already lifted the car and swapping between different wheels, swapping the pads is a very incremental thing. Just saying :)
Agree - the rabbit hole is running hybrid pads. It's a rabbit hole because, in my experience, eventually it leads to changing pads out for the track.

Ahh, got it 🙂 totally agree with you. The next stage is just drive track pads all the time 😄.

My previous message is for @Jstang23 then.

100%. Have R16s on the car now!!!! But it's not a daily - I'm fine with race pads on doing rips around the backroads occasionally

If I we're the OP I'd just run R8s all the time - they are fine on the street and noise and dust doesn't bother me.

@slowdown @tosha

I 100% agree with you this is a rabbit hole. I did this on my Miata I eventually converted to spec Miata. I really do not want to do that with the GT as it is my daily and its too nice for me to completely track out at this time.

I appreciate the recommendation for the Gloc pads! I am looking at the GS-1 or the R6.

@slowdown with your experience with the R8's how bad was the noise? I am okay with a little screeching when they are cold or coming to a very slow stop, but if its going to squeal unless I step on the brakes or once they get really hot then that will definitely bother me. I also don't mind the dust as my wheels are ceramic coated and I wash it pretty regularly.

ALSO where the heck do you buy these pads?? Can't seem to find anywhere.

Not too bad at all - you sound pretty knowledgeable so the way you describe not minding the squeal is how I would describe them. If they warm up a little they are pretty quiet but if your window are down and the stereo off you will 100% hear them coming to a complete stop. But if you need to grab the brakes they aren't noisy - it's the slowing to a complete stop they don't like.

KNS Brakes is good - if you are an SCCA member you can buy direct from G-Loc with a discount but you call and order over the phone.

I actually went ahead and bought the Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. I found out that I have a 35% discount with the track club I am part of, so cost wise it was a no brainer for me. I also think that not buying really aggressive pads will keep me from converting this to a full track car, lol!

I did the tail of the dragon 4 times yesterday following some ridiculous fast cars (Audi TTRS and gt3 cup car) and the audi driver swears by the 5.0 pads. Also justified my purchase as I nearly glazed my pads and slightly boiled my brake fluid! I am looking at Gloc for the future if I ever do decide to track more often!

There's a 700whp TTRS that is in my HPDE club. Absolutely mental car.

Oh yeah, this guy is the fastest driver I have ever seen up in the mountains. About 500 whp, but all the supporting mods to come with it. He used to be a military fighter pilot, so insane reflexes too. That audi quattro system is serious stuff. Definitely a car if I see in my rearview mirror and pull over to the slow lane and take it out of sport lol!

The Hawk HP+ (or HPS or 5.0) may be fairly decent on the streets but they are not very good for track use - just a heads up.

My very first track event ever, I ran the factory PP pads and I glazed them (I had a shop verify this). So for my second event, I got a set of the Hawk HP+ pads. After that weekend, I checked the pads and they had heat cracks all over them. At the time, I didn't know what that meant so I asked on TMO and they said that means I was at the thermal limit of the pads.
So having very little experience at the time and being on crappy street tires and I was already pushing the limits of the HP+ pads....they are no bueno.
Again, if all you want is an aggressive street pad or a very mild track pad, I think they will be OK but other than that, you should consider going more aggressive on pads.

Keep in mind, they will work better on a much lighter TTRS than they do on a nearly 4,000 lb fat pig of a Mustang.

If it helps, after the HP+ pads, I went to GLOC R12 front and R10 rear. They worked great on track and still had good bite on streets. Made a fair amount of dust and noise though if that bothers you.

Even if that's only 5-8* CHT, that could be the difference between being able to continue going full pace at 228* CHT vs. having to back off for a lap because you hit 235* CHT.
mfw I hit 255* CHT in stop and go traffic in the summer

Yeah dawg you need to get that shit checked out, those are insane temperatures even in south Florida. You are damaging your engine everytime you drive and get it that hot.

You are either low on coolant, or have a stuck thermostat or some other blockage in the cooling system.

For what I am doing on track they will more than likely be fine. They go up to 750 degrees. They'll also work very good with the stop tech two piece rotors and steel lines I ordered. I plan on doing 2-3 track days and year and I won't be going flat out at any point. Also my home track is very brake friendly, only one really hard stop at speed then a lot of tracking to cool off!

Maybe when I inevitably decide to spend wayyyy to much money I'll get some Gloc or other track pads.
