I'm not aware of the TR-3160 being chosen due to weight reasons. Below is what Tremec stated:apparently Ford HQ didn't do adequate endurance testing. They should run forever. I wonder if the trans failure rates would have been lower if they had used the TR6060 instead of the "we'll lighten it for the hell of it" TR3160. Nobody would have walked away from buying a GT350 if the trans was a couple pounds heavier.
