apparently Ford HQ didn't do adequate endurance testing. They should run forever. I wonder if the trans failure rates would have been lower if they had used the TR6060 instead of the "we'll lighten it for the hell of it" TR3160. Nobody would have walked away from buying a GT350 if the trans was a couple pounds heavier.
I'm not aware of the TR-3160 being chosen due to weight reasons. Below is what Tremec stated:
"The Tremec TR-3160 is already proven in that capacity, and features high strength steel gears and shafts, as well as high capacity tapered bearings and high-capacity synchronizers. It's designed to take copious amounts of torque without breaking, and provides consistently smooth shifts. And that's exactly what a driver expects at the track."

of course the vendor isn't going to say, we built a fragile gear box. Every beefy engine uses the 6060 Only Ford chose to go 'light'.

I know for a fact that one of them burned oil with every shift. That's because some students were money shifting the cars when they were specifically told not to. When I was there, the other car in my group was puffing black smoke with every shift. They eventually pulled him off the track and had a talk with him about doing those money shifts.
Honestly this is crazy I was nervous about money shifting the car and they made it very easy by saying to stay in 3rd the whole track and shift in 4th while in the oval and then go back down to 3rd. You only shift two times throughout the track.

The reason that so many transmissions were replaced along with the Gen 1 engines is that cracked blocks and loss of oil pressure took out the flywheel which in turn took out clutches and cracked the bell housings. The transmissions are plenty solid internally.

I like to disassemble things.

Hameedi was quoted as saying that the TR6060 was never even a consideration for the GT350.

That was exactly where he was shifting it. Right at the end of the oval. He also left the infield area in 1st gear instead of 2nd gear. Those were the the places that I saw those puffs of smoke on the oval. It also allowed the track officials to keep an eye out for where it might be occurring.

Well - there's this registry, but not complete.....

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...ogram-car-registry.168814/page-3#post-3699534

And, there's my story on life with #14, the Rented Mule.....

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...ented-mule-fprs-gt350-track-attack-14.168923/

There are also a few other owners, including one with two of the former FPRS cars, that are regulars here and have their own posts.

Best of luck if you're looking to join the ranks of owners of these track cars with a cool history.

There’s a thread in the general section that the Track Attack GT500’s are now available…. Any GT350TA owners going to add a GT500TA to their stable?

It’s interesting to me. I’m a little surprised how few have both a 350 and a 500. The 500 track cars sold really quick and basically above msrp as opposed to the 350 which were mid 40’s, which was a good deal. The cage install on the 350’s was much more involved then the 500’s.
