And you can pinch the end of the tether and the cover can be set aside somewhere instead of allowing it to just dangle in the wind. I bought an extra cover and drilled it to seal up the hole with the hook in place.

One of these things is not like the other.

Love the aftermarket folding hook. Please advise where you ordered from. Already have orange Rust Oleum on hand to match it up.

@Epiphany got it from here

Tow hook

no need to rust oleum that hook. You can get in a custom color. I would say the quality of a piece like that is something you don’t take a spray can to.

your car looks so nice in this shot. I think maybe it’s the white and black but it’s a perfect blend of looking like a badass race car and yet elegant at the same time. :like:

Any tips for locating the hole in the cover? I’m going to get a second one to drill but I’d like the end result to look like this, like it came from the factory this way. Also you say the tether can be pinched and the cover removed. When you installed the new cover did you install it with the tether?

I like to disassemble things.
I was in the trades for 30 yrs so it was easy. Kind of like laying out for a hole pipe coming through a wall when putting up drywall. Remove the cover, thread the hook in place, and measure to the hook from each side. You should be able to determine center, or just draw a box which you can then sketch a circle inside it. Then you have to go oversize a bit, to allow for snapping the cover in place with the hook running through it. A stepped drill bit works great for this.

You don't need to install the tether with the hook running through it. So you just make sure it is inside the opening, thread the hook in place, then snap the modded cover into place.

In addition, don't be surprised if the center of the hole you need to drill isn't in the center of the opening, mine wasn't.

Thanks for the advice! This will be one of my projects over the next few months while the car is parked!

I have tracked my GT500 and I have taken it on a half dozen 14-16hr, straight through drives. The folding hook I installed stays on. Why? You never know. Going agricultural at the track is one thing. Breaking down in Butt**** West Virginia at 2am is another. I much prefer being ready for duty than not. Tow straps and shackles reside in the trunk for quick access.

The factory hook would look funny on a daily, I readily admit. But a more subtle hook definitely has utility beyond the factory piece. And one that matches body color helps to blend and not attract the cringing eyes of forum contributors...
Dear God, that is a beautiful car.
