I have lost a few cars to drunk drivers but I always have the car towed back to my house if I`m thinking about buying it back which I always do. Worth way more in parts than the buy back price.

I totaled a CTS-V in 2018 I was able to remove quite a bit of parts including the whole catback but it wasnt at a salvage yard, they were going to try to fix it but ended up determining it wasnt worth trying. They wouldnt give me any credit for most of the mods I had so I removed them at the repair shop, probably not a normal thing for them to let people do though I got lucky to have a good shop that even helped me remove some of the stuff.

From my experience working at a salvage yard as a buyer for totaled vehicles such as this one we would pay approximately 7-10k for the condition it is in. Obviously the pro charger will add some money to the bidding price at auction just so we can try to resell it. Hope you’re able to get it back!

From what I understand is that you can remove any accessories. The engine must be intact. The Procharger is fully removable without affecting the engine. You think I could get that? I will find out on Tuesday.

Do you hold title to the vehicle or was title still held by a lender? If you held title in your possession, did you release the title (yet)?

Vacation or not, you should definitely be on the phone if it's a big concern to you, because from now until Tuesday is a long time for anyone to have access to that vehicle while it's not in your possession.

I do hold the title. It is paid off. I think I will call the junkyard today. I did release the car to the insurance company so that they could tow it from the yard where it was to the yard where they wanted it. I have not agreed on the total payout or sign any other documents

Unless they have paid you and that assessment includes the value of the procharger, you should be able to get it back. If they refuse tell them the payout must include the value of the procharger.

Tell your insurance company that you want to owner retain. You have clear title and they won't cut you a payout check until you agree to their payout. When they make you a payout offer ask them how much your cost to owner retain would be. Say they offer you $24k, tell them you want $32k. Say they ask for $14k to owner retain, tell them you will offer them $8k. These are just examples, you have to decide what market value for your car was the day before the wreck based on year, condition, mileage, options... and how much you are willing to pay to keep it the day after the wreck.

I found out today they are going to give me just over $40,000. To keep the car they would only give me $$29,000. They did say I could take the pro charger off the car. Anybody in the Sacramento area need the P1sc blower. I don’t think I could get the entire system off the car. I’m just not that talented

Wow man, really sorry to hear about it getting totalled. She was a beauty! It's an unfortunate fact that these cars are surprisingly expensive to fix. I had a tree branch fall on mine and it was something like 13 or 15K in repairs.

Glad you are still in one piece.
