Tire producers are not going to store molds for sizes that don't sell in volume.
That's not totally true. They will store them and do short runs if they get orders. Problem is if they are covered up in large orders, they get priority, you may have to wait 6 or more months to find any and they will be expensive.

Welp, Those of use with cars that take 13" 14" and even 15" tires can not get tires for our vehicles in the correct size or metric crossover size because no one can be bothered making a run of 4 tires.
And it isn't going to get better with oem's speading the wheel diameter from 16" to 22" History has shown this to be an issue when there was 3 wheel diameters for 99% of the vehicle. It isn't going to get better adding more (16/17/18/19/20/21/22)

Yea, they won't make 4 tires, might make 400. We would make odd runs just to keep the plant open. Really sucked. Sometimes we would do 2 tooling changes a day.

I got a return label and full refund with no bitching on the distributors
(Canada Wheels) behalf. Said they were sorry and have no control over what tires are sent out from their various wharehouses.
I didn't question their policies because I will not be using their company in the future.
On a side note:
Received my 305/35/19 MPSS today
from Black Circles Wheel and Tire
(Canada) DOT Date Stamp '4021'.
Now these Tires I can trust.
Lol
Guess I should have gone with them in the first place but was a bit more expensive.
You get what you pay for right.
Ordered my fronts today from Black Circles.
When I emailed Michelin corporate they said they have a limit of 36 months shelf DOT Stamp. I contacted two big Tire companies, they said they try to keep Tire inventory to 18 months DOT Stamp.
Can't wait to get them mounted on these puppies. Carrol Shelby CS-5
Thx for the replies.
So how much did you save by buying online? I know a brick and mortar tire shop will cost more but you'll have to pay someone to mount and balance them for you. I went through this a couple times buying motorcycle tires online and the hassle didn't justify the savings. Now I just get them from a local motorcycle dealer and I've built up a good relationship with them. And the end cost isn't that much different.

The tire business looks to be headed for a substantial change with the recent merger between giants Discount Tire and Tire Rack. At least from an enthusiast standpoint I expect to see higher prices.

As for supporting the local tire shops. I’m growing worried for their long-term prospects. Support them now if you want them around for the next set.

Well got two tires 265/40/19 sent from Black Circles Tires.
DOT Date Stamp 4217,2417.
I just bought some 305s from these guys dated 4021.
Now I have to send these back.
Lol
They're not screwing around and have put out the word to their warehouses about DOT Stamps.
So that's a good thing.
And are already sending me replacements without even receiving the dated old tires. So I guess we'll see what comes this time.
I wish all vendors had that kind of customer service.
You reading this CJ Pony???
😄 🤣 😂

Nah, the reg joe, or jody with a car, that needs tires, isn't going to tire rack for replacements. They'll go to what ever shop they have service their vehicle, that in turn gets the tires from the local tire jobber. They are not going anywhere.

....I bought a 2008 Saturn Sky in 2018.
It had 39,000 miles on it.
Apparently the stock tires were on it as well.
I drove the car to my tire store to order tires for my wife's Escape.
The owner/friend of the tire shop says;
"I wouldn't drive that car with those tires if I were you. Look
how old and rotten the tire sidewalls are."
Wifey and I had driven the car to the NC coast and around home; about 1600 miles or so.
The people @ the Toyota dealer said they checked out the car and everything was ok.

Yeah, right...............................

Unbelievable they sold old tires I will never run a tire more than 4 years old. I would send them back. They should have sold the as NOS.
Yup, this is the second set I've sent back and will continue to do so until they get it right.
That's one thing I don't fool with is tires. Sometimes I push my car to its limits and the last thing I want to be doing is wondering if those 'SAFE' not so new tires are going to hold up. Since this is the first time I've noticed the DOT Stamps I wonder what I've been driving on all these years?
After the issues I'm having with this I and I hope other people reading this will be paying more attention to DOT Stamps in the future

I give the tire a good visual look and if the tire has no visible cracks , I drive without fear. I agree with the post about tires being out in the elements having a shorter lifespan. I would have no problem buying a tire that sat in a warehouse for 5-10 years before I bought it.

I have always experienced the first year they are great, second year degraded performance and time for new ones for year three. This is why I like fast wear cheap Pirelli PZero & P7 AS+.

The main thing to consider is the constant off gassing of various chemicals that are essential to compound performance.

Anyway if it's 4 years old and discounted 30-40% fair enough.
So I recieved another pair of 2417 MPSS tires. Must be from the same batch. On these after reading above about defects the sidewall towards the tread is very easy to push in with my thumb. I did the test with my 305/35 dated 1721 and the sidewall was much stiffer, I could hardly push in the sidewall in the same place. Is this from it being a wider tire than the 265/40 tire?
I'm kind of at a standstill here with 4 outdated tires.
The vendor has been alright so far but they keep saying it's out of there hands. Their policy is 36 months so...
Should stand my ground until I get tires I'm comfortable with or ask for a discount? I have time as I won't be mounting them for a couple months at least.

If not happy send them back. One sidewall blowout hitting pot hole and there's no recourse.

I saw a deal on Michelins at blackcircle. Bought tires from them before and dates were fine delivery was fast and they back up the products. I believe Continental owns the site.
Black Circles is who I'm dealing with now.
First Canada Wheels sent me 2 tires from 2016. I sent them back and got a refund and changed vendors.
Now Black Circles have sent me two pairs of 4.5 year old tires. I guess I was hoping to hear some informed opinions about safety of these tires. But I think I've heard enough and will be sending these 4 tires back to Black Circles

I have always received fresh tire from blackcircles.

Well if you are going to burn them off in 6 mths no big deal if planning a few years use send back.

Not worth the hassle to save a couple hundred dollars.
Nah these are for the fronts. I got some 305s from Black Circles that were made in 2021 that's why I ordered the 265s from them.
I will be sending them back as they said policy is 36 months. If I'm gonna be paying $500 a tire I want NEW tires.
