Just went through this same issue with Discount Tire. Ordered online as they showed to have tires I wanted in stock, only to find out they actually don't. Worst part is their site still shows this very tire in stock...

Tire rack will double check if they know the car. Usually its pretty low friction and they’re trying to help. I never give the car info anymore and order a lot of strange sizes and it hasnt been a problem.

Discount tire (locally) would not sell me tires if they weren’t stock sizes and load ratings. Refused to take my money. Just bonkers to me. Said the computer wouldn’t let them
They were very nice about it to be fair, and it's not like I really mind. Just had to poke fun. It makes sense if you consider the cost of shipping tires. The absolute last thing you want is some dingus buying himself tires that won't work for his vehicle.
