Hello everyone, I was wondering if you guys have tips for my first track day? I will be attending a Performance driving school at BIR using my own car. I know the instructor will have a lot to say also but just wondering about what I can take car of at home. Car wise all they say is, Make sure tires are inflated correctly and Brakes are operating at peak performance. Plus take everything out. It is 6- 25 min sessions.

Thank you

Tony

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
Drop the psi in your tires before going out to maintain a hot reading around 32 or so. I run 38 around town to help with tramlining and would never go on the track at that setting. That’s it. You bought the right car for just this day, so go out there and put that huge grin on. The addiction will start on lap 2.

An accurate tire pressure gage and a helmet are the two things that you might not normally have that would be helpful. BIR has loaner helmets but I would recommend bringing your own if possible. They will want you to wear closed toe shoes of course.

Unless your car is only a few months old I would advise you to bleed the brakes prior to the event. I also like to check lug nut torques before a track day.

Just be a knowledge sponge, no ego, and you will have a freakin' blast. It always feels a bit overwhelming the first time out and that is okay. Other than the basics of car prep above, good sleep and a clear mind are your best prep.

Thank you all. For those in the Minneapolis area do you guys have a recommendation for where to buy a helmet? I know of online places but would need to be able to pick it up in the store to have it before Sunday night. Thanks again everyone

I bought my helmet at Tousley Motorsports in White Bear Lake. They have a good selection and I thought the customer service was really good as well. It could be there are other places around with lower prices, I don't know. I wasn't really looking for the cheapest. I wouldn't want to buy online, because a helmet needs to fit properly or you won't get very good protection from it.

A Vette in from of me kicked up a rock and it hit my lower windshield and cracked. Nothing as bad as some posts on here but one that will require a new windshield.

Are these prone to frame twist? or did it crack along a previous rock chip?
These things are incredibly stiff. Definitely no twisting

Also just as another data point for oil. I am using Motorcraft oil and I did not use any oil. 5-25 min sessions.
