I just recently bought a 2015 GT PP at a dealership that I initially thought was bone stock. Bought it at 8k miles and ran smoothly during my test drive so decided to take it home. That same night I decided to bang first gear and got hit with the wrench and “limp mode” later diagnosed as a P2112 code (Throttle Body Stuck/Closed).

This resulted in me further inspecting the vehicle and discovered a JLT intake, JMS pedalmax commander, and most likely a tune (hopefully you guys could help me figure out if it’s tuned). As for the tune, the max rev sits at 7k but I can shift at almost 8k so I assume thats tune related. Moreover, the more I drove I realized the code only throws out when banging first or second gear only! Never any other gear. I just dropped it off at the dealership and they’re replacing the Throttle Body, but I’m wondering if the tune, intake or any other component could possibly be causing the code. Is it most likely just a defective Throttle Body? Also, occasionally the car’s revolutions fluctuate when idling anywhere from 500-750 rpm up and down, but very rarely and sporadically. Any input is met with gratitude!

Reving 15-17 engine that high without having an upgraded oil pump gear is a sure way to get yourself a new engine - and given car has pedal commander, doubt it had the gear upgraded.

Sorry to not be more helpful, but would really look at that.

I'd remove the pedal max and see if that solves your issue. I've seen some guys getting codes after install but usually it's related to the pedal position sensor not the TB.

First thing I tried, didn’t solve the issue. I also reinstalled the JMS Pedalmax and disconnected the battery to recalibrate the throttle position sensor. Also didn’t solve it.

I owned a 2017 GT before this one and the rev max stopped at 7k. This one revs and stops at 7750k. The 2017 GT model I had wouldn’t ever let me push past 7k mark. Any idea about that?

What about about asking the dealer for your money back…gen 2 were not designed to red line at 8000 rpm’s and you are basically taking a huge chance
And depending where you are, you could not be able to smog/register the car

Yes, you have a tune that modified the rev limiter
Factory 17 had a 6850 cutoff and the highest Ford performance “legal” tune was 7500

Ok, it might’ve been 7500k, so is it safe to assume it’s more likely a tune rather than a defect then? Also, I’m located in NJ

100% sure that it is a tune and you need to smog your car ever 2 years in nj, so if I was you I would seriously consider having a talk with the dealer that sold you the car

Kinda new to this, what exactly do you mean by “smog the car every 2 years?” What does “smog” mean? And what exactly would I say to the dealership? Any ideas? Thanks in advance

He's referring to emissions inspections here in NJ. The car has to be tested every 2 years. If the car has any type of tune or other module that affects the emissions, or aftermarket modifications that affect emissions, it will fail.

So if the Dealership sold you a vehicle with modifications, you need to go back to them and get some sort of agreement or letter stating that they guarantee the car will pass NJ inspection. Otherwise, you're on the hook for any repairs to get it to pass. If the car fails, then if you have that guarantee from them and they are on the hook to getting you a valid inspection.

It is a tune like luc said (earlier thought it was obvious that it is) - previous gen redlined at 6,800 I believe and quite a few people with tunes that raised it, ended up damaging their engine after OPG failed.

Given the mods (like Pedal Commander - which is kinda lame), I am risking a guess OPG has not been upgraded so anytime you rev your engine beyond where the original limiter was, you're risking it.

Step 1,
Ask the dealer to inspect the Throttle body.
Are you sure the installed TB is the OEM 80mm ?
I am not, but I’m assuming they’re replacing the Throttle Body with the OEM one anyway.

Really sending gratitude your way! I’ve managed to have them declare and sign a waiver indicating that they sold me a vehicle with aftermarket parts neither parties were aware of. Hopefully they’ll assume responsibility for this. But why would a rev limiter cause an emissions fail?
