So I have my timing cover off... should I replace my timing chains? They look a little worn and I have 101k miles on the motor.

If I replace them is it okay if I replace the primary and not the secondary?

I found the primary chain for about $70 but I have only found the secondary chain for $130.

Any opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated?

I would replace both at that moment.

Do you know where I could get a factory replacement secondary chain or just one for cheaper in general?

Thank you! Forgot I had access to ford dealer connect and I pulled the part number off of there and found it on fordparts.com

so I have to ask, why are the timing chains so REDICULOUSLY TOO long? They should be JUST long enough so you can walk them off the sprocket. No wonder any minor hiccup in the tensioner and the motor grenades.

And apparently Ford also used oil-pressure as the sole force on the tensioner? What freaking moron thought that up? You always use a one-way ratchet so that it is impossible for the piston to retract...

Does anyone make these for the coyote?

They are oil pressure and spring pressure, otherwise they wouldn't require a pin to be released after they were installed. before your engine gets oil to the tensioners they wouldn't have tension on the chain and the chain would jump every time the engine is started if the springs weren't there.

The boss tensioner is the only way to go. The spring in the tensioner is weak and allows the chain to have slack until oil pressure builds. This is also one of the reasons for the 2K rattle. When you let off the gas the oil pressure drops allowing the chains to slack. I use gt350 primary chains. They are a slight upgrade and they’re actually cheaper. I also recommend a secondary tensioner flip bracket
