So I just got a call from my dealer, asking if I could come in prior to the 1st of January to sign all the paperwork, give them my down payment all to qualify for the End of Year 500 dollar incentive. They have confirmed this is applicable on top of my x-plan. Cotus, is giving me a EDD of 1-3. I'll also be trading in my Jeep Patriot at that time. This would leave me car-less for about a week if Cotus is correct.

I'm not sure if they will give me some sort of rental in the meantime, I just called my dealer back to verify, but he was busy.

Is this a good Idea? I'm 90% sure the car will arrive in good condition, but what if it doesn't, and I need to refuse delivery? Will my money be refundable? What other risks are involved?

If there is anything wrong with the car, remember, you bought it. I did that with my LE, after it left Flat Rock, it was due in 9 days, it was 6 weeks later when it showed. Just sayin,

There is no reason at all they should ask you to do that... Other than your salesman wanting to get the sale before Christmas or some kind of bonus for them, Sure you could be a Pal and help them in their endeavors, but it makes not one bit a difference for the purchase of your vehicle, that's betewen you and your finicial intuition.
Who knows, maybe Ford offers more than the 500 after the first of the year.

Either way, I'd never purchase (car) anything without getting a good look at it first.
And about the rental, if they're willing to call you in efforts to secure the 500 rebate and give you a rental, well that would be excellent service and I'd do the deal with my eyes closed.

Yeap, anything wrong you owned it. I have notice some of the mustangs have imperfections like some of the members claimed on here. Especially the strut towers are it looks primer looking then painted.

The dealer (and sales person) want it to add to this year's books -- they have a lot more to benefit than you do.

Should you do it, I'd insist upon:

1. Being able to refuse delivery if there are 'defects' or damage
2. They cannot sell or transfer your Jeep off premise in case you refuse car.
3. Get the above in writing.
4. Get a better incentive from them -- the dealer has no skin in this deal, it's a Ford rebate. Ask him to knock the price down some more....a good bit more.

Thanks,

I need to get more information from my dealer, the above is a good starting point. I'm sure they have something to benefit if I do sign prior to end of year, and i'm ok with that, they are a business. Adding the extra 500 to my down payment should knock payments down another 10 to 15 bucks a month, and every little bit helps. Not sure how much more I'd be able to knock down the price as I'm already getting it with x-plan, and from my understanding that is non negotiable, but I guess it never hurts to try.

I'm in the same boat as far as delivery and rebates. I also want to get the EAA rebate (have to still sign up for the organization to get it...been waiting to see if my car will come on time). Right now my EDD is on 1/5 which is the LAST day for both the $500 rebate and the EAA $750 rebate...not sure if the EAA rebate will be renewed or not, but I would bet there will be another Ford rebate for January, maybe $500...maybe more? It's a crap shoot!

Ohhhh...and GO BRONCOS!!! :cheers::D:thumbsup::headbang:

I did this and lost almost a week on my 30 day tags to get a new plate, this coupled with the holidays and being out of town limited me to 13 business days this month to make it to the DMV.

I agree with Stoli, they are going to say the $500 rebate is your incentive to do it now but I'd ask for more.

thanks Clink,

Can I ask, why did you sign early? was there and incentive / special going on that was offered to you as well? Did you haggle the price down a bit to sign early?

Honestly I had the day off and just wanted to get it over with, car showed up following week and since I had to work I didn't want to spend another 2-3 hours in the evening doing paperwork.

No additional incentives other than the $500 Dream Big which we all qualify for I believe. Car also disappeared from COTUS which was a bummer since I never got to do a screen shot of the "delivered" part.

When I showed up to get it, in and out in less than 30 min and that included a trip to the gas station.

In your situation since they obviously want to hit a # or get a bonus, you may be able to get something but not sure if it will be much. Maybe free tint at a minimum?

If I had a guarantee that another incentive was offered for the first of the year, I’d wait. Also, this incentive does help, as that exact 500, I had already saved up, but ended up needing to get my wife an extra Christmas present, I was going to eat the 10 15 bucks on payments, but this puts be right back on track, when I originally budgeted for this car.

BTW, Bangles going to get their ass kicked tonight! Sorry Cinci, ya’ll know it’s coming

In mn, if your car is bought in jan for example, registration renewal will be due in dec. so, if you close the deal on dec, you might get hit with it in Nov. Might not be a big deal, but here it could mean few hundred bucks.

So I ended up going down to the dealership and did the early sign. I asked them what would happen if I needed to refuse delivery, they said that I still had that option until I officially drove it off the lot. Told me that my down payment is 100% refundable, and they would give me my trade in back. They also gave me a really nice F150 to drive around until my car gets here! So far Autonation Katy ford has been great, and by far the best car buying experience of my life! Any who, here is a pic of my loaner truck

Now the problem will be not being able to track it on COTUS. Hopefully it comes in quick for ya. That is a nice truck though.

Yea Cotus has been down a week for me. All good though Rachel with ford has Given me regular updates. Both dealership and Rachel has confirmed the car is in Houston now at the warehouse / train station. Also the dealer would not have given me such a nice truck off the lot if they thought my car would take too much longer to show up
