Yes it's fine and dandy to push the ecoboost but Damm not even wanting me to test drive the v6? That's sad if you ask me.
not wanting you to? did he say that? did you ask to drive it and get refused? or did he just throw out an honest opinion that is pretty much unanimous and you got your feelings hurt?

I'd definitely go somewhere else... The guy is trying to get you to spend more and get the eco boost. Not that it's a bad car, but you shouldn't trust dealers that try to force you into a car.
or you know maybe hes being honest because well the v6 sucks balls.

It's sort of his job to try to upsell every customer as much as possible.

This to me is a bit like getting mad when the person at the drive thru asks if you want fries with that.

That being said - go where you feel you are treated right. That's the only difference in dealers - customer service.

exactly. don't be the type of customer who thinks hes walking into a dealership and going to get serviced like the dealership owes you something. youll never get a deal that way, I'd appreciate an honest opinion and conversation over sugar coated courtesy any day of the week

Honestly from someone who has owned the 3.7 it does suck. I mean its a great V6, but its still a V6 and the upgrade potential sucks. With the EB you can get some pretty sick numbers with an upgraded turbo and parts.

Or just get a GT if you can afford it.

Talk to the manager. That will give you a pretty good idea of just how the owner thinks. If you don't like them, then move on.

Did the dealer even have a V6 in stock? Car salesmen will always try to "guide you" to what they have on the lot. If all they have are EB and GT's in stock, he may just be pointing you to the closest vehicle to your request that's "in stock". When I worked in the Fleet Dept., I could dealer trade to get a car, but that wouldn't help on a test drive request. Now, if they did have a V6 in stock, then that was just a shitty sales guy.

They are there to help you and honestly to guide you to the best vehicle for you.
That being said test drive every single iteration. Drive the V6, EB, and 5.0 manuals and auto. I had never driven a mustang before I got mine. I was pretty dead set on the 5.0 but I drove them all. The V6 is a pig. The EB is a nice upgrade. But the 5.0 is where it's at. But do what your budget allows of course. If you just want the look and are not too concerned about performance the V6 car is a good buy and normally they sit longer and you'll get a much better deal.

.
Wrong.

They're there to sell cars, produce profit for the dealership and close the sale. They'll push you to the most car you can afford without giving you reason to say "the dealership pushed me into a car I couldn't afford" and then potentially face issues with the BBB, etc.

They don't want you to order a car, they want you to buy a car on their lot that they have at that moment. How often do you see base cars on a lot? I can count on one hand how many times I went to my local ford dealer and found a base anything..EB or GT, and still not use every finger.

I was the Caddy dealer looking at CTS for my wife. Dealer asked if I plan to buy or lease, I said buy. He told me you don't want to do that the resale value sucks.

Great sales pitch!
Yeah, you have to wonder about some salespeople. They should have said:

For the car you want, the manufacturer pays the bank for an artificially high residual so if you know you only want the car for x year, leasing is the best deal. Pushes the lease without trashing the product.

Say the magic words :"You've lost a sale!" ;) Don't worry, plenty of Ford dealers in Southern California...

Seriously? What kind of salesman wouldn't at least give you a test drive to let you make up your own mind?

My answer: one who doesn't want to work at the dealership much longer :tsk: If the manager caught wind of that, the dude would be toast.

Funny most sales guys want to drive them, he was looking out for your best interest....another dealer is in your best interest.

sort of like when I wanted to order my car and they said "Why the heck would you want the GT Performance Package on a Convertible? Just order a fastback"

How about you not question what I want to order and just order it.

I had this exact problem. Nobody within 1000 miles had a base GT. Local dealer offered to order me one, but tried to be slick and make me pay 6% for 8 years! A couple other dealers wanted me to buy off the lot which I would've considered, but nobody within 1000 miles had a blue GT. Two dealers refused - flat out refused to do a factory order for me.

Funny, I thought only Dodge/Chrysler pulled this sort of B.S. :tsk:

The dealer I'm going with approved my credit over the phone, ordered my car (Base GT, 6 speed, Blue) without hesitation. He obviously wanted my business so he gets the money. I just have to travel 7 hours to get my car!
