But we pay a gas guzzler tax on the GT's?
My wife's Edge gets about the same miles per gallon as my GT, and we didn't pay the guzzler tax on her Edge, WTF?
The only Mustangs that get the GG tax are the Shelby's, the Bullitt & the Mach 1 M6. If you paid a tax on a regular GT you got ripped off.

Perhaps the dark green paint makes it cut through the air easier? That or McQueen has blessed my car with magic lololol
What? That's so stupid. None of that is even possible. It's obviously gotta be powered by human farts.

Gen 2 here and best I did was 24 us mpg. However the Gen 3 cars are more economical so I can see 30 mpg been possible.

I'm pretty sure that the gas-guzzler rules are relaxed a bit for SUVs and other larger vehicles. Which is a bit contrary to the whole idea of taxing excessive fuel consumption.

The GG tax become law in 1978. There were no SUV’s as we now know them back then. The ones that were around were considered trucks and were exempt.

This wasn't bad considering the distance and time was a 70mph average. Still over a quarter of a tank left as well so 400 mile range was possible.

The car can definitely do it if you keep your speed constant. I’m actually surprised that it doesn’t do better. I’m averaging 19.5 in the couple thousand miles since I got the car (it’s a PP car with 3.73 gears).

My C7 could easily get 35-40 mpg on road trips. I think the best I got was 38 or so on a steady 75mph - 400 mile trip. Of course it was way lighter and had a 2.41 rear with an A8 tranny.
C7 is a much smaller and more aerodynamic car, plus it runs with 4 cylinders on the highway.

Mustangs don't get 30+ mpg at 75-80 mph like the OP said. They just don't. Maybe I misread the post. Or maybe he was driving down a hill and only reported that part of the mpg. Yes they can get 30-40 mpg at over 75 mph, but only if you are driving down a hill with the wind. In normal average driving conditions on the highway you should expect mid 20s fuel economy if you keep it under 75. If you exceed 75 the fuel economy will decrease. And if you are in a traffic jam, your fuel economy will also decrease. 0 mph = 0 mpg.

Don't ever trust the government to tell the truth. The gas guzzler tax has nothing to do with how much fuel your vehicle uses.

Technically they do - see above.

That is UK gallons mpg however so that does equate to about 28mpg (US gallons)

I’m just reporting what a now 1600 mile drive has given me…..unless for some reason my miles or shorter, or as you suggested I drove downhill for all 1600 miles. The mustang will in fact get 30mpg highway varying between 65/75, with some higher and lower speeds mixed in.
Not sure how I would have driven 420+miles a tank without it running out of gas otherwise..

Gen 2 coyote for me as well. Was averaging 28 mpg @ 70 mph for 200 kilometers with 3.73 gears. My 71 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 375 hp 440cid / 727 trans / 3.91 gears at 70 mph would get 6 mpg @ 70 mph.

We are about 2/3 through a road trip and have about 1100 miles done. In several bumper bumper traffic jams with a majority being 70-80 highway driving this car is averaging over 30 MPG!
I have spent some long hours in the car the last two days and it is just such a comfortable place to be all day long.

Not sure why you revised your speed claim and mpg claim downward. Did something change?

Dude…. It’s like your offended or something? Was just a fun upbeat post about loving the car and you think I edited my “ miles to e” or tricked the car? It’s ok my guy the days will go on and this post will be meaningless soon

No not offended, but you are right that I did have an emotional response to your post. I apologize for that. I love my Mustang too. I think they are great fun. But fuel economy is far from a big priority for me. I do enjoy the fuel economy I get in the Fiesta, even driving it hard - but that's not why I own either it or the Mustang. More because I like to drive them.
