Lol the guy is most likely a cop, they train for high speed driving situations. And he probably doesn't need lessons on how to take a corner or modern safety features. :p He just has to respect how easy it is to kick the tail around if you aren't paying attention.

I have been through "EVOC"(emergency vehicle operation control) and dyring the week long course through San Bernardino Sheriff I think I may have seen as high as 65mph on their course... the desire was there to go faster but something more important occurred.

It was grilled through to us that properly chasing the fleeing vehicle would probably have you failing out. So everyone's mindset was rightfully on responsibility versus fun, training officers tried to grill mind set and responsibility which can be a lot to ask when half the class is 19-24 year old males full of piss & vinegar.

Not everyone in an LE field gets to haul balls and learn how to handle vehicles at really high speed.

Want to see something cool? Look up the demonstration video of CHP instructors at a graduation ceremony... that isnt the example to consider.

I could go on at length but most departments are so liability conscious that their pursuit policies, as well as GPS monitored CAD data, are reviewed and audited to catch anyone who speeds and doesnt use "due regard."

That said there are those of us who supplement on our own dime through HPDE, track days, or autocross in our personal cars.

Crown Vics are pigs. Basically a low riding truck that can take abuse, sad to see them go.

Chargers are fragile crap.

Explorers are not so bad. Ecoboost Taurus are rare due to the liability conscious dept. Some how the Caprice got a hell of an LS engine and are actually what one would think of as a pursuit capable car.

But high speed training is rare. It is usually low speed maneuvering trying to get people familiar with their bumpers/edge of the cars so they are not bumping into things.

As for the OP. Car isnt so powerful that you will be losing control. Cold tires in cold weather or wet roads, maybe. But I keep my 2015 GT Perf Pack in sport mode for 90% of driving and track the other 10%. Leave traction control on and you should be fine for the majority of driving.

My 2005 GT and my 95 Cobra are scarier rides with less power due to rock hard suspensions and the solid rear axle making them slide happy.

I really do not get how people are so frightened of the 2015. My GT Perf Pack is MUCH harder to even deliberately do stupid stuff with. But then I tend to brake for the correct speed for a turn BEFORE the corner and use momentum type neutral cornering and accelerating smoothly on exit.

My other cars do not reward bad driving habits when pushing hard and can show you snap oversteer pretty quick. With the easier to drive 2015 it only further rewards the driver when you use similar driving practice.

I find this is the most important thing with the 2015 that will potentially snare somebody....

It is TOO QUIET AND TOO SMOOTH. For instance both my 95 and my 05 give an excellent sensation of speed. You go fast in them and you know it. The loud exhaust helps remind you of engine speed. The vehicle ride harshness lets you feel connected to the road. The wind noise reminds you of speed.

In the 2015 it is so quiet and refined that if you are not careful you could find yourself going 20-30mph too fast into a corner. It is a faster car by leaps and bounds over my 95 and 05. But you need to pay attention to what you are doing so that your senses dont lull you into complacency.

For instance 90mph in my 95 and it feels like the world is tearing apart at the seems. You know you are beginning to haul ass.

But you could do 120-130 in my 2015 and with the windows rolled up you will hardly notice it. Possibly not until it is too late.

I am going to get an exhaust for my 2015, likely ford racing Boss 302 style side pipes. I miss so many down shifts because I cannot hear my engine after a throttle blip as it is revving down for timing the release of the clutch. It gets to the point that I gave up heel&toe shifting for my 2015 due to that issue. Something I can do perfectly in my 95 and 05 due to lots of experience combined with louder exhaust notes.

Lol he's got that exactly right. I've come off ramps going 100mph because it just didn't fell like I was going 100mph. You notice real fast though when you pass people on the highway who are doing 80 like they're standing still :first:

...the game/simulator called Assetto Corssa on steam. They just released a new version with the 2016 mustang GT.
This is the best thing I have gotten out of this thread! Did not know this game existed, I will pick this up tonight so that I can safely "hoon" a near replica of my car with no consequences... :headbang:

I came from 18 years of driving a Wrangler every day. When we got this thing I had zero idea of what I was getting into. I was conservative in the test drive; I liked the looks and the luxury (doesn't take much to impress a Wrangler owner).

The night we were driving it home we came to an empty strip, so to speak. I am moving along, when my husband said "Punch it". So I did. It was a HELL YES !! moment, not really fear. After letting off the gas after that painfully short 5 seconds and laughing my fool head off, my husband said, "Now don't do that again for 1000 miles". :(

At that moment though, I had clearly gotten the message the car was telling me, 'This is what I can do'. So I immediately gained respect for what was under the hood.

In that break-in period I learned a lot of things like it doesn't take much pedal pressure to take off. I had to just get over that I will unintentionally have a head start leaving the stoplight and hoping people would not think I was trying to race. I have seen enough of those idiots on youtube trying to be cool and crashing into cars and crowds, so I never tried to be funny and punch it when the light turns green, even when alone in the dead of night. As far as people trying to get me riled up on the roads to race them...not interested.

I had an advantage of driving the Wrangler beforehand, safety-wise, because they are not meant for going 90mph, handling corners, and slamming the brakes (you have to quickly increase pedal pressure and hope for the best). It is basically a ziploc on wheels. Some of my habits have transferred over to this new animal. In the rain I don't drive fast at all or take hard turns, leave plenty of space for the guy in front of me and try to avoid situations where I might have to slam on the brakes no matter how nice and highly effective they are.

I am no angel and like to get my rare zip on for a couple minutes now and then, mostly with several friends in S550s as we are leaving early morning for the next pre-cruise convoy. But reality quickly kicks in because death and tickets so we all behave the rest of the way :p

Pretty much, as long as you respect what you have and possess common sense you will be fine.

Even an EB will try to break loose under the right conditions. The first time out, I tried to pass four slow moving cars on a two lane highway. I had to get back into the right lane quickly because of on-coming traffic. I hit the gas...the turbo opened.. and the back end tried to break loose, really squirmy. I went from 45 to 85 in seconds...yikes.

I took at GT auto out with 3.55 gears last weekend. Guy had me punch it on the on-ramp with a decent turn and it held really well never felt loose...we were doing about 60 at least.
Now try that again in the wet and report back:D

I had a nice sweet drift this morning on a ramp. Temps were 39F and it was raining. Car was in normal mode, the ramp has a sharp bend. Approaching the turn at a decent speed under 50MPH, the stock Pirellis broke loose causing a drift...I did not panic and steered into the drift while gently easing off the gas and got the car back into the normal position.

Traction control came in too late to stop the back end from going sideways.

So the moral of the story is the PP is easy to break loose...OP beware especially in the wet and cold temps.

I don't show off with this car either. I learned a long time ago that " hey hold my beer" or
"hey watch this" only ends up in money or body work or plaster casts.

If you want to have some fun learning to really drive the 2016 mustang I really recommend picking up a force feedback wheel and the game/simulator called Assetto Corssa on steam. They just released a new version with the 2016 mustang GT. It's the most realistic sim of the car that you can get. I've found that the sim car is extremely close to the real thing and you can learn a ton from it about what the cars limits are, with zero real world consequences.
awesome glad I could introduce you to it. Have you played it yet? Tested the mustang?

You sound like a person with great driving habits. I have no doubt you'll safely be driving this powerful machine for a long time.

That would be a great attitude to take with you to an introductory HPDE track day.

I drove a 4 cylinder accord before this and transitioned easily. The car is much more powerful but its not some 1000hp beast. You should be fine.
