welp....wondering if its worth trying to drain the whole system to make a precise 40 to 60 water to glycol mixture with the 160 i havent installed yet or return it to beefcake and buy the 170...
I didn't drain my system at all for the install.

That depends, do you want better performance? Obviously, our tstat opening earlier will cool faster and more efficiently. The rate at which the vehicle in question is traveling will directly impact the outcome in a "comparison". Your tstat opens and closes several times a minute to allow for cooling. If you are going ~50MPH the tstat will activate ~4-6 times/minute. At ~75MPH that rate will increase to 6-8/minute. So again another variant.

There is only one way to accurately test this. You would make a "circuit" using transparent tubing where you have a flange in the middle that houses the tstat and gauges on both sides of the housing. On the other side of the circuit, you would have a way to apply heat (your motor), and monitor the system that way. In a test like this you can see when the tstat opens, and how hot or cool the coolant is on the both sides of the tstat. This is how your OEM, their suppliers and the performance aftermarket industry test cooling products.

I'm sure you haven't, but I don't believe it gets as hot in Tampa, than it does in south Texas. I wasn't beating on the car in this picture, but just showing a example of some pretty hot conditions. 105 degrees w/ out our nasty humidity, sitting in traffic. I've seen as high as mid 120's in the peak of the summer before my 160 t stat. I'll take a 20 degree difference any day.

Where is your degree difference. Look at my photos of my head temp.

Also, I have a whipple SC. I would think that a supercharger would contribute more heat into the engine than a N/A.

I just switch out the 160 Even Flo for a 170 Reische and wow what a difference.
First I took out the 160 Even Flo and put both in a pot of water. The even flo opened up 10 degrees before the 170 and I thought crap, this wont help.

I then installed the 170 T Stat and used the clamp method with a big plastic bag under the hoses. I caught about a QT of coolant, with very little leaking on the floor.

I then put everything back together and added the fluid that I caught in the bag and started it up, no leaks then took a long drive, and what a difference. I don't think the hot water test in a pot has any thing to do with how they work in the Mustang as my temps were significantly lower with the Reische 170 then the Even Flo 160.

Even Flo I was seeing ECT temps of 199 all the time and CHT temps of 205-215 actually saw 218 once.
Reische 170 so far the highest I saw was ECT temps of 180 mostly 178 during my drive, CHT temps were 185-187 max.

Temp outside was 33 today but I have drove the car in snow with temps in the 30's with the 160 T Stat and still saw the temps as described above. The coolant temps were as reported my NGauge and the CHT was reported in the ford Gauges menu.

Hope this helps.
Here, read this post.

Sounds like a lot of people are just trying to save face on this 160 degree thermostat.

They do make more heat , that is why they come with a heat exchanger. I'll I'm saying is you probably haven't seen my temps because of the climate you live in oposse to mine. I was simply stating by my picture that in 100+ degree weather sitting in traffic my temps where fairly low.

I don't need to read a post. I've seen my results first hand in the vehicle running. Not a science experiment.

Also, review post 10 and then my previous post.

205 to 210 is what I get with the even flo 160.
^^^ Similar mods to mine. He lives in the Northeast; I live in a much hotter environment than he does.

^^^^ This is what mine is consistently at. This is during and after multiple 3rd gear pulls. In traffic, around 183.

I have an Even Flo 160 right now in the car.
I have a Reische 170 on the way.

I will post a cold start video with both and drive them up to temp.

We will see if there is a difference.
Same location, same car, same tune/fan settings, etc.

Will probably be next week.
