Technically something can only void a warranty if the installed part is suspected/proven of contributing to the particular failure in which you’re seeking warranty repair. So, if a wheel bearing has failed and you go to get it repaired under warranty, they can’t claim that your air filter voided the warranty. You can reference the Consumer Products Warranty Act of 1975 (also referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act)

In general, dealerships don’t care too much about air filter replacements... especially if it’s just the filter and not an entire intake, especially if it’s the same make as something they offer (like the Airaid model which is identical to the one sold by ford performance.)

However, if you’d rather be safe than sorry, you can always keep your existing paper air filter and re-install it if you ever go in for warranty work. Also, as a few members have mentioned, it’s not a bad idea to keep it around for use while the reusable filter is drying after a cleaning.
That makes sense, Thank you!

Glad I found this thread and saved a few bucks. Have the Airaid blue in my garage waiting to be installed.

Ordered a 861-399 Airaid from Amazon Prime and received an Airaid box marked 861-399 but inside was an oiled K&N filter. Hope they manage to get it right the second time.

Does anyone have the torque specs for the filter installation? I don't want to over tighten the clamp since everything is plastic, and I also don't want it to pop off.

You ain’t gotta go crazy with torque specs for that! In all my years working on cars, I’ve never torqued its to spec and never had an issue.

just don’t crank on too much. Tight is good enough. It’s easy to check on it during the first few hundred miles to see if it is loosened up.

Just tighten it till it won't spin around and it's good enough.

Does anyone know why it says Airaid 863-399 does not fit GT350 on almost ANY parts webpage?

Is this a side deal with Ford? Has anyone literally held the 863-399 next to the Ford one, to know it's totally the same? Even on the Airaid site, it says it doesn't fit

not sure but that part number is for the blue one that fits perfectly. I went with a red one, part number 861399, the same item just red.

I guess if everyone is happy with it....BUT if it says on every website I checked for that part number IT DOES NOT FIT YOUR CAR (meaning it may "fit" on THERE, but it isn't the right item.... maybe not the design for the flow is correct or something.....throw off computer?)

If it really is EXACTLY the Ford Performance part of course I want it, but to save $19 or something..... are we sure it's the same, not just fits the same? And if it is the same, then why not say say? They have one they say it fits the older 2011 GT500 (etc), and Ford may sell a part to fit that, too (???) , so why would they not say the 863-399 fits a GT350?

I just swapped mine out on my R. Went from stock to the blue one. I couldn’t tell you what the part number is off the top of my head. I’ll have to look at the box tomorrow when I go back out to my garage.

I had a bit of a difficult time getting the blue one to go into the air box until I stalked loosening the bolts that hold down the air box.

Once I loosened those up, I was able to get some wiggle room inside the air box and slid the blue filter right on.

I’ll look tomorrow at the box, if It’s not too cold out I’ll pull it off the car again and compare it to the stock one.

here are pictures of the OEM filter and the Ford Performance blue colored one.

they are identical ! I bought the 863-399 so you're good to go.

I guess this is a good place to share my recent issue.

I bought the Airaid filter (on eBay) which has Ford Performance Parts sticker and the part number M-9601-G and seems genuine. When I was about to put it on my Mach 1 (which has the same air intake as GT350) I noticed some debris inside the cone. It was strange since the filter was sealed plastic wrapped inside a paper box. First I thought there were only few "particles" visible at the bottom which I could simply remove by hand or knock out.

Then I noticed that similar particles were also attached to the wire mesh on one side. Some of them (the bigger ones) I was able to remove by hand as well, but others were too small for that. Then I realized I cannot put it on my car since I was not completely sure the filter was clean inside. I checked the original paper filter, which did not have anything inside, and put it back.

After a detailed inspection afterwards I noticed there were many tiny specks of what looked like a glue residue more or less attached to several edge lines of the internal wire mesh. I took pictures of the mesh with the residue, and few specks I was able to remove with pincers, but even with pincers some are hard to remove. The other problem is that removing the glue needs applying some pressure to the mesh and risks damaging the wires.

I contacted the seller, but I am curious if anyone has seen anything similar.

Unfortunately it did not occur to me to take pictures right from the start, so I removed all the bigger stuff first then took some pics for the seller to document the current status.

I can reply to myself and to anyone who would be interested in the outcome. I got a response from the seller who checked with the manufacturer. The residue is supposed to be a normal result of the manufacturing process. I should knock off what I could and the rest, if it ever gets into the engine, should be harmless.

In contrast with the original (paper cone) filter, which was perfectly clean inside, this feels a bit disappointing.
