I found a 2018 sync 3 screen with apim attached for 499 on eBay, coming from base, all i would need is the faceplate, usb hub and harness if i get those from eBay correct? I'm horrible at radio stuff, I've read over the op so many times.

Successfully installed sync 3 in my 2018! Some things to note.... ms can is NOT required. Steering wheel controls function without it and without any coding in the 2018 and I have confirmed that 16-17 are not used in a 2016-2017 Mustang. Also, 15-17 bezel works flawlessly in the 18. Still need to go through as built data... ran out of time tonight but at least for now I do have a fully functional system.

PS: 2018 start button is not a direct replacement. You will need the black plastic guide as well as the cap in order to make it work in a 15-17 bezel.

zackmd1 how did you confirm that MS-CAN wasn’t used in 2016-17 when your car is a 2018? I have the schematics from both of those years and they clearly show pins 16 and 17 are used by Sync 3 for MS-CAN. I’ve had people perform pin swaps who incorrectly installed the MS-CAN wires and their steering controls didn’t work until it was fixed.

I had another member with a 2016 Mustang connector verify that 16-17 were not populated. I can't explain what you saw with the steering wheel controls other then it was likely another issue in terms of programing. Also, some 2016 Ford models still had MFT which could explain why it still shows in some publications.

That’s interesting because they kept that same circuit in the 17’s schematics....
I'm not sure what to say other then the fact that I have verified hardware that does not have the pins.

If the member you are referring to had a 2015 then it's possible the SCCM has different ABD then a 2016-2018. The way to verify would be to have someone with the harness unplug the GPSM connection and see if everything still works.

That was my next thought. That would actually help me out a lot from a harness stand point. The MS-CAN is daisy chained so leaving it disconnected from the APIM shouldn't cause any issue with anything else on the ring. The OP is being re-written so I will have to update that.

Went through a little bit of the ABD today at lunch. Seems to be vastly different values for 2018 but so far the ABD lines are still correct for editing.

Drive modes activated
Hazard toggle fixed
ACM programed
APIM programed

Still need to tackle the FCIM to get rid of DTCs and remove sirius from APIM since I just did an ABD dump from a 2018 301a.

Stop what you're doing and follow the instructions here.

HextallS550, I've lost track of how many times I've sent these instructions to people. It really needs to go in the OP.

ETA: also note that if you swapped both the APIM and the ACM, you'll have some extra work to do in the ACM to get full functionality. That ACM was setup to work with additional amplification.
Hey there. Thank you for the suggestion but I found that page a while ago and wasn't able to get too far. I think its mostly because I am not sure how to work the As Built explorer.

I was able to find all of the as built codes here
https://www.motorcraftservice.com/asbuilt

I am just not sure which car to take the codes from; a GT350 since thats what the radio is from or a "premium" GT since that is what mine effectively is now, head unit wise.

It doesn't matter what car the APIM is from, you're programming it so it works in the car it's going in. The APIM could be from an Escape or another model and still work.

You want to find a car that most closely matches your options. You're doing a base to Sync 3 swap from the sound of it, so you basically want to find a 2016-17 400A car with your engine/trans AND the type of APIM you have, nav or non-Nav.

If you can't get it perfect, don't worry, because that's what this post is for.

What issues are you having with AsBuilt Explorer? You just open it up, load some as-built files, and view the data inside them. It's pretty easy.

Thank you. Maybe I'm a dummie but the "load some as-built files" steps is where I was stuck. I click "Load Files" and nothing happens. If I click browse it opens up file explorer, not sure what I'd do there. Maybe something happened when I installed the program and something is missing.

Anyway I should be all set thanks to HextallS550 but thought I'd mention it in case someone else has similar issues or is as computer illiterate as I am :)

If anyone is looking for swap parts I have a Sirius ACM in the classifieds and another member is selling a GT350 Recaro bezel, these take forever to get and he's selling it for it less than AutoNation's already reduced cost he also has a Premium bezel, if you don't care about heated seat buttons, for $125..
If you're looking to save some cash and do a MFT swap I have a plug n play harness and media hub that was never completely paid for available.
